Item #120635821228, ended already.

Anybody else follow this one?

I asked a few questions. Received a few answers.

The auction was ended early.

The seller told me when I asked why the sale was ended early, in an email, that the item was no longer for sale.

I hadn't seen one (110 salesman sample) like this before, 1/2 and 1/2. Can anyone authenticate it?

Oregon, I did tell you that they came 3 different ways... I try to get you to call me for I could tell you all about them... I still like the clear ones best... I did see that one on the bay, it was to much I thought... ITE ... :D

I remember seeing it cause I'd like to have one, but they wanted like 2 hun for it didnt they?

The starting bid was $200. Had I received an answer to the question about why it looked so dirty and could it be safely cleaned I had intentions to bid but several hours before the auction was to toll it was stopped.

The seller said that it had no defects, no cracks in the plastic, no scratches, no problems at all. I couldn't decide whether the "dirt" was from brass ageing or something else. It looked like it would be difficult to clean the inside of the brass liner without harming the plastic.

Since it was a two dot the seller believed that it was one of the oldest salesman samples. I wonder if Leroy built it.

Hey guys,
The knife in question is mine. My name is Heath Stone Life member # 1594. I know some of you but not all. For those who do not know me I have been collecting for 20 plus years. I collect mostly fixed blade knives but I do have a 110/112 collection as well. Which brings us to the 110 salesman sample. I baught the knife 3 years ago at the Atlanta, GA blade Show form Larry Oden. When I purchased the knife from Larry he stated at the time that it was the earilest one he had ever seen. The knives come in three different ways. Clear on both sides, clear on the right, and clear on the left. If Leroy made the knife it would been prior to his custom shop days. I really do not know who at Buck made the samples but maybe Larry, Joe, or Leroy may remember. Take care and if I can ever help answer any questions please feel free to contact me.

howdy Mr. Stone,
i was going to bid on your knife but bid on one from Joe Houser i wanted more..
i do recall that knife and that Larry had it and was told the same as you
that it was the earlyst one he had seen.

on what Leroy does today is made with bullet proof lexan
as it is clearer then what was used way back then and
it has a blue cast to it when viewed from the edge.

from what i understand the older ones would
crack quite often when pins were put in it !
and some times got slightly foggy with age
there are earler ones around,
i have seen one in Pa that i think is older then yours.
but it was not for sale ... and may never be ....
your is nice and clear for its age!
as to the box
i dont know if many of these were with a box as they
were a request item ... the one i seen was jest in a sheath..

Dave,
Great to hear from you. It is always good to visit with you and your brothers at the Buck events. I have owned three of the salesman samples two came complete with boxes and one just had a sheath. I am guessing that as a salesman the box would have been not as important to keep up with.
Oregon, The material that is in between the knife appears to me to be some type of lubricant. I am not an expert on factory knife construction but it seems that a lubricant is used during the assembly phase to reduce friction and I think that some residual lubricant is what you may be seeing. I think it can be cleaned out. I may send it to Leroy one day to get his opinion.
Take care,
Heath

Heath,

Very kind of you to post to this thread. Thank you. You are all right.

Did you acquire all three of your salesman sample clear Bucks at get-togethers? I haven't seen any others for sale online.

I hope that you are able to post photographs of your collection on the forum for Sunday Picture Show, hosted by ITE. It would be relished by me and others here.

Oregon,
The salesman samples that I have owned have come from private collections or Buck Collectors Club events. I have seen one for sale on a popular auction site in the last year. I will work on posting some pictures in the near future.
Have a nice weekend!
Heath

hkingdom I love it when you post pictures, I allways see some thing new. Thank you for the information. HL

those are nice knives!
now i was told the very first sales man samples
did not have a clear side at all
rather they had no side at all !
that they started putting the clear sides on
when folks said of getting cut were they were takeing one from the pocket
or when the person being shown was not carefull and closed it on his
fingers were the side was missing!
they did dull the edge but many sales man would sharpen the back up!
that is one i am looking for now
jest wish i could run in to a retired sales man ... :(

110,

I feel your pain.

And, I've seen pics of your Buck hound and I'm pretty sure, today anyway, stumpy legs or not that what you have is the rumored and feared chupacabra. I am afraid for any goats in you neck of the woods. Gotta go now to close and lock all of my windows and doors, shudder.

I can't seem to open the 2nd pic in hkingdom's post...

Oregon, I tried the second picture and got it to open. It shows all the clear sides of the knives. If you open the first then click on the next button on the upper right and it should show the second picture.
