I'm looking at picking up a 110 or a 112. I'm not much of a folder sheath kind of guy, mostly because I don't like undoing a button or velcro. I know, it's dumb. Anyway, from the 110's I've seen, they seem to fit pretty snug in the leather sheath (never tried the nylon). Has anyone ever just cut the flap off of one? It seems like it would ride in the there just fine, be snug enough to be secure, but still be easy enough to pop in and out.

Is this old news? Does it work better with the leather or nylon?

You can do this, you just have a slightly better chance of losing the knife.

Cordura will be tighter, on the average.

The leather sheaths get loose with use. The custom ones not so as the 110 fits tighter. DM

The Custom 110 holster sheaths are nice and snug, also makes for easier unloading.

If these are what you are referring to, I agree. They are the tightest sheaths for the 112's and 110's I have for sure. They are discontinued but show up on the auction site regularly.

If you just want to cut the flap off and use a stock sheath like that, one way I have used to tighten it up is to use an old scrap of leather...say...from a discarded pocket book from the wife :) ...cut a strip wide enough to fit inside and long enough to go down the back and up the front. test fit for a SNUG fit and when happy use a thin line af glue to hold it in there.
