I have been researching one of mine and something struck me as interesting about the third version V1 and V2.

It seems that in most posts the "dot after" has meant a change in that varation. So with both of these variations being 1967. Why is the Dot after Buck, variation one.

Seems to me that V2 with no dot should be V1 and Buck Dot should be V2.

Does this make sense? Why put a dot on the first variation of the third version?

Just going by Joe's data sheet.

Maybe this has been kicked around before and I just missed it.

Maybe I answered my own question. I see that the 2nd version, variation three had a horizontal Buck DOT left side.

So now the question is, was that the same stamp that was used on 3rd V, Var 1?

I need to go back to fishing, this hobby gives me a headache..:(:D

Here's my take on it, Packrat.

Rule #1: There are no rules.

Rule #2: Every single one of them has at least one exception and is subject to change without notice.

Rule #3: Just when you think you're getting it.......you're not.

:D

Best as I can tell, the change from a 2nd Version-variation 3 to a 3rd Version-variation 1....is the spring holder changed from a fiber spacer to an integral brass spring holder. Stamps are close, but changed from horizontal to inverted. Also, in this 1967 time frame, Buck stopped using Landish Forgings(Los Angeles?) and switched to 440C blanks, but......there is little documentation on this, and.....the 110 may not have followed the same path as the fixed blade models, so......makes for good speculation:p;)

Scott,,Any idea how that stamp would compare to a horizontal stamp on a 2nd ver var 3? Just curious if it is the same stamp.

Boy,,,ur no help,,,,now get to studying that data sheet so you can be more useful for my ignert questions :D

I know its confusing, but maybe if I explain how I came up with the order, it might make sense.
I first poured through hundreds, nay thousands of old 110's. Noticing that there were diferences, I pulled out one of each. Then after examining them, and taking them apart, I settled on what looked like a logical progression from a manufacturing standpoint. (If I only found one of a certain variation, it was set aside as a possible reworked knife.)
Then, I took the few facts I had obtained from company documents and used them to add dates to the string of 23 knives now on my floor. Over the years I have found new ways to help nail down some of the dates, such as Use and Care leaflets, which have dates on them starting in 1972 but were not necesarily printed each year. As new info is discovered, I try to slot it into what I think I already know. If it does not fit, changes are considered.
I know the dates listed after the Variation are confusing and I kind of use them as a place holder. I am at a loss as to what to do there but have considered only putting a date on the knives that I feel kinda sure about when they were made.
Geeze, I cant imagine that the above helped make things more clear and in fact, I am getting more and more confused as I keep typing!:D

Thanks Joe,
I guess I made this hard. Sorry :o

I saw the data sheet for 2nd ver, var 3 that has BUCK * on it and wondered if that Buck * was a carry over to 3rd ver var1 for some reason.

I guess if someone has pics of a 2nd ver, var3 that question would be answered. and by that, I mean comparing the stamp to Scotts pic of his 3rd V, var 1.

jeeze...I am going to have to seriously quit playing in the toy box and go fishing. :D If yall think this was a tough question, you should see the others I dug out that I am cornfused about.
