I picked up this 110 workman at a flea market the other day, I was surprised to see the warranty information on the back. Was workman a true separate business. The warranty on the back is lifetime to the original owner and need to send in the purchase receipt for work. Some different then the "Forever warranty"110 Workman.jpg110 Workman NIB.jpg

That's interesting, I'd never noticed the wording of the warranty info on them before now. I doubt that there would be an issue getting warranty work done even lacking the original receipt and no matter how many hands it had passed through. The knives were the same as the regular series, they were just marked and marketed in a different manner. If I remember right, they also sold other, non-cutting items such as tool bags under their "Workman" name, so the limited warranty may have applied to those items more than the knives.

Here's something posted by CJ Buck a few years back about them:

Workman was a series developed to try to get knives merchandised in two different locations in a store. There was a separate catalog and sell sheets. We were going to put separate rep groups selling to the tool/hardware buyer as well as the sporting goods buyer.

We tried to make some unique products as well as take some existing product and create a "family" that could go into the tool/hardware section of a store as well as be more appropriate for the then new home center stores.

It was not successful enough to cover the overhead and inventory required and discarded.

I will ask Joe if he has any of those workman catalogs

I'd wager the warrunty difference was on purpose and just because they figgered them knives would get used harder then them sold as hunting knives.

No dout they'll fix em anyway, though. Bucks ain't much fer fine print.

I just found it interesting, this so far is my only Workman and will probably never see the light of day other then through the blister pack.

The fine print does say original purchaser but we tend to not require proof of that these days. I dont have the answer at my fingertips but would guess/hope that the warranty slips from the same vintage, non workman Buck knife would say the same?

Just dug out a Duke 500 from 1994 and the warranty paperwork says the same thing. Warranty good for the life of the original purchaser (and is not transferable), must send in the purchase receipt plus $2.50 return shipping.
