Picked up a 110 lite over the weekend and noticed an oddity, my Lockbar is magnetic. It was in a blister pack, so it hasn't been on one of those magnetic display holders.

The magnet will collect the metal slivers from wearing in or just debris out of the ground.i would return it or send it in.

Wheeeeeooooo
Crisis averted . . . mine isn't magnetic.

Interestingly enough (unless you are not into useless facts; then it ain't interesting) . . . my Boker "Anti Magnetic" ceramic and Titanium knife

The unique combination of the most modern materials grants an exceptional position in the knife market. The blade is made of hi-tech ceramic, which is 100% nonmagnetic and provides outstanding edge retention and corrosion resistance. The handle is made of lightweight, durable, corrosion resistant titanium, and features an integral frame lock mechanism. A pocket knife with truly unique qualities! Includes pocket clip and lanyard hole for secure handling.

Actually it has a STEEL pocket clip (looks exactly like Ti) . . . so . . . it is magnetic.
o_O
Cool knife though (black zirconia ceramic blade) ; I didn't buy it for it's nonmagnetic properties.

You can't clean that stuff off of a magnet. Keeps coming back. Talk about a nasty sliver.

Throwing knives become magnetic from sticking into the wood the same way everytime. Magets are cool but can be a real pain too. I'd be sending it back, or trying to demagnetize it.

Well, how about that....

My knife kept sticking to another knife while I was "playing" with them. Thought I'd had something sticky on them.

A theory, Buck may use a magnetic platen to hold the blades while they are being machined as several of my Bucks including the smokejumper have some magnetism. This is not a Buck only phenomenon as my CRK Sebenza's blade has some residual magnetism as well.

that got turned into a folding flat head screwdriver.:)

interesting topic. never thought about it before. thanks y'all for the info and links etc.

so are all buck folder backlocks or midlocks 316L steel or different types of steel over the years or with different models? thanks.

Hey, good idea, Buck 110 flathead!

Whats that term, where certain metals are supposed to have healing powers, cause you to accumulate money and be more attractive etc.? Maybe this magnet in my knife will make me better looking and be lucky during deer season.

Not all are magnetic. After seeing BuckShack's pics, I checked my Smoke Jumper. Not a trace of magnetism on a knife from the same run ...

My smoke jumper blade has slight magnetism. Never would have known if not for this thread.

Doesn't magnetism occur when two or more pieces of metal come in contact and move against each other like in a production bin? I know if I rub two screwdrivers together they become small magnets.

Demagnetize?
If there is an old electrical repair shop near you, they might still have that thingamajig that demagnetized CRT TV and Monitor picture tubes.
It should do the trick. A "friend" of mine took my hopped up HO slot car (we had a slot car "club". The main straightaway was 30 foot) over to the TV repair place once. That thingamajig demagnetized my $5.00 (in 1971 dollars) extra strength rare earth motor magnets. :(

I talked to my son who works at the Buck Factory. He said yes they use magnets to hold knife parts in various machines. After the part goes through the machine the parts are the sent through a machine to ""demagnetize" the part. So some one did not do their job on your knives. So if you send it back to the factory they most likely will send it to the demagnetize machine, or give you a new knife. I hope some one from Buck sees this thread.
