Here's a new one in 52100 steel and Desert ironwood!

Information...

~3/32" thick 52100 Steel
~4.5" Blade (110 mm from handle)
~9" long

I start these with a full flat double plungeless grind with distal taper then later work in the bevel/microbevel. The tang is also tapered.

High hardness - around 62 RC.

Hidden Pin Construction - there is a center pin you can see but I used hidden pin construction for strength and good looks. I used black micarta pins.

Enjoy!

That is good looking Daniel, but man....what did you do to that ironwood?

Seriously, that finish is spectacular. Almost like blown glass.

Thanks! The ironwood is on the tougher side to cut and grind but finishes like glass!

The distal taper looks nice on that one Mr. Fairly.

Thanks, I feel like I'm getting my blade geometry better on each one.

That finish is spectacular. The whole package looks like it'd be right at home on the cutting board.

I really, really like the grind...do you ever make anything in the 240-270mm size?

Daniel: At least the grain was on the right side (makers mark side)! Ironwood is a fickle mistress, but this is a stellar package. Nice!

LOVE this shot.Is this spoken for? **interested**

I am soon, right now I'm working on 210mm Gyuto with 240 planned for the next run... I just received 24 feet of steel for kitchen knives so I'll grind some soon!

:D Yes bookmatched scales but lighter on the one side... I'm loving it though!

I would be very interested in a 240 or 270...

Any idea when they may go for sale?

And are they going to be 52100?...the more I do things with 52100, the more I come to like it given how consistent it is across the board. My 52100 kitchen knives have been absolutely fantastic in terms of steel performance.

Sorry for the delayed response! :D

I'm posting progress on a batch right here, have a couple of threads going ---> http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/873-Daniel-Fairly-Knives

They are slow going, 62 RC steel takes a while to grind. :D I just ordered extra belts over my normal order amount to keep up with them! I'll slowly have them out there, I have about 15 heat treated at the moment.

52100 all the way! The performance is just incredible, I have tried just about every steel around and am staying with 52100 for most of my knives and all of my high carbon kitchen knives.

I also have some AEB-L in to try out, it sounds like the way to go for stainless.
