Digging thru a box of sheaths at the gun show last weekend I found some black 111 sheaths with "449" embossed on the flap. Can anyone tell me about that marking?

Mine came with brown sheath marked 111, I dont know about the 449.

I bought a couple off the bay and found they make perfect 112 sheaths. Hope some one will tell us what 449 means. I will take a picture later to show what we are talking about.

Did you stuff something down in the sheath? I just tried a 112 in one of mine and I found it went in so deep that it was very hard to get a grip on the knife to get it out. I actually turned it upside down and shook it out.

I am still at work but will get out the camera when I get home. No Dave I didn't stuff anything in the sheath except the 112. The sheaths (2) will not work for a 110 (to small).

That's odd. Do you suppose the sheaths are mismarked? Here's a couple of pictures of two identical 111 sheaths, one with a 112 in it and the other with a 110. The 110 is a perfect fit.

Don't know what is the deal but here are some pictures. Wish they were as good as yours Dave.

Your pictures are great. I don't know what's up either but you see how far the 112 goes into my sheaths. It makes it difficult to remove them. I did find a reference to the 449 stamped on the sheath for whatever it's worth.

It has a cat. number of 4389, model number of B111-SP3-0, from 2005. 111 Folding Hunter W/449 Logo, 700 produced, Laser etched blade and embossed sheath.

Tried to show the angle on the end of the sheath. Most sheaths, like you showed, are more straight not angled.

Hmmm, mine (the brown sheaths) have that same angle when new but the leather stretches out easily to accept the 110 or 111. I went to my stash and looked until I found a couple with black sheaths.

The black leather sheaths have the same angle at the bottom but are MUCH stiffer than the brown and it took some force to get the 111 to go in far enough for it to snap. It will snap though and I suspect after some use, the sheath leather will mold itself to the knife and it will be easier to put the knife in. Both brown and black sheaths are identical in their dimensions, so I just have to think the difference is the leather used in them.

Well what is the significance of the 449?

I have no idea Kev. I got that info from the Special Projects List and that's the extent of it. No mention of who they were made for or what the blade etch was. I can't find it in the model history either.

The March 2006 BCCI news letter shows it's a union hall number. It was made for the International Brotherhood of .......??????? that is all I can tell you. The union name is not on the scan! Sorry.

My internet search came up with four (so far) "International Brotherhood of ***********, Local 449's". Steamfitters, Electricians, Teamsters and Boilermakers. Hmmmm.

You would figure out of 700 knives, someone on this forum would have one. I only have two sheaths and no 111.
