112 Chip Flint Carbon Fiber scales

Here are the pictures of of the knife that show the brass pin and the profile of the grind. Anyone else with this knife have similar issues?

I received my knife today. First, absolutely Stunning knife. Just beautiful in hand. The mix of the Full chip flint blade and lightning strike carbon fiber scales, set off with the nickle silver frame - I can't stop looking at this knife ! Immediately goes to my top 3 favorite knives I own; maybe the number 1 favorite. So, so glad I had the opportunity to purchase this knife and that I made the purchase !

1.) Now for the issues (Big & Small). The knife is dirty - black grime all over it. At the pivot point on both sides of the blade. When the knife is in an L shape - that part of the knife that sticks up at the spine (rocker bar ?) - dirty, both sides (and inside). The actual lock to push in, area - dirty. Bolsters meet the carbon fiber - yes, dirty. Spent 30 to 45 minutes carefully cleaning with q-tips. Then the inside of the handle - completely dirty from one end to the other (I haven't attempted to clean this area yet). This isn't dust. It's a black grime/grease. Is this normal from Buck on a $200 limited edition knife ? (for me, this is an expensive knife)

2.) The back bolsters on both sides are not even with the carbon fiber. The carbon fiber is raised higher than the bolsters. Can be felt with a finger and especially with a finger nail.

3.) The front - back bolster. At the rounded edge (at the top) it is slightly uneven. Looks like the polisher (?) made 2 slight divots in the smooth roundness of the top edge.

4.) Blade edge - dull. Butter knife dull. Will barely cut paper; more like drag and rip.

5.) The COA - black stain upper right corner.

6.) Leather sheath - the Leather is crinkled (unsmooth) at stitches along the bottom (the Leather, not the stitches).

This is my first Limited Edition buck knife purchased direct from the factory. The complete filthiness of the knife is surprising. The dullness of the blade - normal for chip flint ? I have high standards - yes. Did the fit and finish of this knife meet those standards - NO. Is this normal from Buck ?

To the Original poster - AZbuckNM. Your knife is still 1 of 1. My pins are nickle silver, Not brass.

The black residue is typically from polishing. It gets in every nook and cranny. I don't think Ive ever received a new knife without some on it. i don't know on the rest. Ive had such good success on every Buck Ive purchased I don't see the problems that show up now and again.

Makael,
What do you recommend to clean the knife with when they have this polishing residue and a bit of a grit feeling in the pivot area when opening and closing? I appreciate your insight

Looks like Buck is tossing some lucky collectors a bone with this set of build outs. A cyclopes golden eye 112 and a 2x stamped blade on another knife. Funny and the folks who got them have posted for us all to see. Seems like these are the Gem's of each issue....1 off's.

What Makael says! I have had a few that were dirty looking like that but not always. It a simple clean with warm soapy water, dry, and oil and it should be ready for use. I don’t know but when Buck cranks out thousands of knives every work day I’m sure some get by. For me it isn’t a problem and I enjoy the time getting familiar with the knife. Kinda like having a baby, they get messy and need cleaning but they are worth it!

I use a Pure Silicone Spray by a company called Kel.. Red, white, gold can.. I have used this on all/any knife I get and it cleans them up great.. Just wipe them off and let dry when done then lube.. I have used this on a lot of knives in the lasy 15 or so yrs with no complaints or problems. Simple and easy..

lol. Well kinda like that. I would rather be covered in Polishing compound than baby made compound. lol:poop:

A WaterPik ain't just for teeth. When all else fails, a high pressure wash will do the trick.

These are really nice 112 knives. The brass pin is interesting, unique. It wouldn't bother me. The grind is okay too.

Makael - thank you for the information that the black residue is typically left over polishing compound. I wasn't sure what it was. Also, thank you for the cleaning tips.

And a thank you to Lesknife, jmh33 and BuckShack for their cleaning suggestions.

I haven't decided if I am going to return the knife yet (I don't want to let it out of my hands), to see what Buck customer service can do, over the issue of the dull blade and the bolster issue. I may try to strop it first.

Again, thanks to all
