Greetings, I have a 112... I'm considering making it my woods knife for camping and hiking....in my part of the world having a fixed blade on your belt might attract some unwanted attention... Although I keep one in my pack as back up...it'd be used for basic camp and outdoor type stuff... Cutting cordage, whittling cleaning the odd bunny or fish, food prep.... it's share camp duty with a fiskars sport axe... but in case of an emergency and I get seperated from my gear it'd be my only blade....wanted to collect some opinions from you buck enthusiasts Thanks...P.s. I really like the size and feel of this knife...

It's a really subjective thing but I prefer the feel and balance of the 110 over the 112. The 112 just doesn't work for me. I have large hands and someone with smaller hands might have a different point of view.

If the 112 feels better for you then go for it as it's still a great knife.

Are you going camping in NYC itself? I asume not, although there is some good freshwater fishing in Queens and Central Park has some 5 ld largemouth bass....

I started out carrying a 112 many years ago. I still have a 112 and a 110 in my collection. I've always preferred the 112 because of it's size. It did everything I asked of it on a farm in FL and while living in the mountains in WV. It traveled with me, went to school with me, took showers in public campgrounds with me, and even cut a lot of stuff.

I think you're safe with the 112. I believe it'll do the job for you.

Thanks guys... Keep em coming Tom, Now I wil not be camping in the city than I'd be more worried about what credit card to bring than what knife.... I do a lot of camping in orange putnam, schoharie and a few other counties....Where you form....just to clarify the question, I'm not concerned with the size of the knife but more the abilty of it to hold up and function reliably... Thanks

Take it to the woods, and don't think twice about it. It will hold up just as good as the 110. The 112 is just as hefty, and takes hard use well.

112s are really robust. Don’t put it through a wood chipper and it will be just fine. I have to say though, I agree with 2manyknives. A 110 feels better in my ham hock. I have a 112FG and it doesn’t fit real well. I bought it because it looks real nice next to my 110FG, scales match and everything, it still looks minty fresh. For me the 110 sees much more use.

There are lots of posts here about polishing the brass, using Flits or Brasso or a silver polishing glove. All will work a treat. Keep in mind, all this is is tarnish not rust. Rust eats away at steel and will change the suffice but tarnish just changes the look of the brass. Tarnish will not pit the brass. It only effects the suffice.

the 112 is a great knife and would serve you very well, i lean toward the 110 due to the slightly longer blade. If it feels good buy it. you'll like it.

Rescue, I live in Nassau, raised in Queens....I noticed you work in EMS....I have an office in One Metrotech....are you near by ?

Well Riley..I think that you always need 2 knives with you .So I think you should buy a 110 and take it and the 112 with you when you go camping.
Then you can come back and tell us.. what you think.
Let us know how it works out for you.

What a freakin' Yoda.
Great advice Jeff. Get a 110 and try 'em both out RescueRiley...
Let us know.

I used to be a 110 snob. For decades. I remember when I saw my first 112 at the Alameda NAS Navy Exchange. I chuckled. Thought of it as a 110 "poser".

THEN, I was "encouraged" (read as: "peer pressure" ;) ) by Mike and others here to try one out. I love it.

Still use a 110 primarily. But there have been several times where I felt the 112 was better suited for a task.

Probably would carry one more often if I could get one with BG-42 or other premium steels. Also, if there were more "custom" options like the 110.
Maybe it's time to invoke the skills of Muskrat. :)

BTW, why would "having a fixed blade on your belt might attract some unwanted attention..." if you are camping? That seems like a natural environment for a fixed blade.

Yeah I used to wear a fixed blade (non tactical looking) with a 3.75 inch blade and I have got some looks...and a couple of comments... I don't particularly care what peoplethink but I like to stay below the radar..
