I am new here and learning as I go. I have just bought a 112 with the markings Buck in script under that reads CUSTOM then USA . Looking at other 112s that I see on the net it looks just like all other 112s with the dates marking on them. Can someone tell me any thing about this knife ? I will try and put some pictures up soon

Welcome to the Bladeforums. Sounds like one from the Buck Custom Shop. They did custom 112's for a while but I don't know when they stopped.

Buck's Custom Shop began Jan. 1981 and operated until 1993. Their first stamp used was Buck/USA (perhaps for 2-3mos.)the second stamp used was Buck Custom USA. Then later 3 digit (employee award knives) and four digit (customer ordered knives) stamps were added. Yours is probably a first year knife from this shop. Look hard in the blade well as it may have someone's initials. Welcome, DM

Thanks for the info it is helpful "What a great site . There is no other markings other them what is on the tang, so do not think it is a employee .Any way I think I did good on this buy and a good start for a first time collection .Next on my hunt is a 500 duke any thought there ?

There are few 112's that are true custom shop[ or award knives and therefore hard to find...Please do post pic's if you can as we all want to learn as much as we can about any rare Buck..I collect rare ,odd, 1 of 1 112's and REALLY look for them and I have never held a true 'old custom shop' 112 and have seen just a few pic's or even references to one..Now a few years ago Buck did accept orders for custom shop 112's for nearly a month and I believe Total orders came to only around 100.They always sell close to or over [most times way over] there original factory cost.Highly prized! If you do have a early CS or award 112 Joe Houser here can help you authenticate it..A 500 is a great user and there were many LE's and rare versions to collect What do you like?

Interesting. Was expecting something different. Kind of looks like a standard 112 except for the blade marking.

Yes, it does I don't see what is custom on this knife. Maybe the steel ?? I emailed buck company asking questions on this knife two weeks ago and got no reply back
Bucksway Thank you for all that info "Wow"
As far as what I like, BUCK folders 110 112 500s 300s 700s and the 55, I need to do more research on all the bucks, I have received and lost or stolen buck knifes all since I was a kid never gave a thought to collecting until lately so here I am LOL hat in hand asking questions

Yes, I thought so as well. The handle looks radiused which would put it at 1982. But the Custom Shop didn't follow the same production time line pattern. Could that blade have been put on a standard handle? DM

If the blade is polished it most likely is of 440C as that was the steel of choice in The Shop. 425M steel didn't reflect a decent polish. The large handle pins and wood all look like just a standard handle for that time frame. DM

That was my first thought too. Someone did a reblade. Even then it's a nice looking knife.

A factory build out is possible even after 'The Shop' closed and Buck found the blade. If the slabs on this 112 are solid macassar ebony this would give us a clue toward it's time frame. Still, this may be a mystery we will not solve. DM

It is a nice Buck and a keeper. Would be nice if could find the story out on it Thank you all for the help

Us Buck nuts REALLY get into a good Buck mystery...Buck does offer what we call the 'Spa' treatment for under 7 bucks including return shipping...Clean buff sharpen....A reald deal with the benfit of getting a nice looking Buck in the mail..We ALL love that! Your 112 could very easy be 1 of 1 and IS a intresting 112..I hope you get a nice dress-up 500 to EDC..maybe stag? For us who collect a real bebfit is actualy using a few nice Bucks for light use.If you enjoy Bucksl and the nice folks here consider joining the BCCI.....The real Buck family Chuck CJ Joe and all the rest are really great Americans who care abot us and all there customers...The best part is you can really get to meet and talk with all of them!Rock Star acces dude!!

500s seem to be hard to get older ones that is .Do I call Buck and set up that clean or just mail it and send a note? and can they tell me more on this 112 as far as the BCCI soon I will join Thanks again Bucksway and all the others for the help on this
