Whaaaa HOOOO,

I think I got a real treasure finally. Trolling the bay I saw this micarta 112 with a very poor description, 1 bid for $10.95. Looked and looked and appeared to be in very good shape. After 2 days still no more bids until about a minute-got lucky and won it cheap. Got it the other day and had to get 'puter fixed before pictures. Here they are:

few nicks on bolsters and scratches on blades

after a few passes on the crock stick it was sharp enough to do this just by bumping it while cleaning with some Never Dull

Whata ya think?
Thanks for looking

Fritz

Ps-do you think Buck or Leroy could make it look brand new? The scratches are light and the nick arent big or deep

So you are the one....I don't feel so bad I got hooked up away from home and missed the end by an hour. But you need to take two really bright and clear pictures for me, a side view showing the blade, tang and handle. And the brass spacer on the end. If possible a little clearer and brighter than your first quick ones. You will go down in 112 history then, well just a BCCI website history.....

412Bucks (300 + 112)

Couple more pics:)

Congatulations, Fritz, to find this knife for a few dollars.
It seems to be one of the first version, and with the brass
spring holder from the first variation - how you can read in the
Thread: "How to tell age of a Buck". I think you made a great find.

Best,
Haebbie

412:D,
I would love to get some better pics and I will try. I had pics on my phone and knew the would be no good. Finally got wifes camera and that the best I could do last night-bad lighting in the house. I'll try and get what you want on Sat during the day outside.

Ps Sorry you missed out on it, but with that impressive display of vintage knives you have, I'm glad you gave one of the small fish a chance at the big worm:)

Haebbie,
Based on the revised 110/112 data sheets from Joe I was thinking it was a
4th version second variation due to stainless rocker rivit. I have been confused if that was both 110 and 112 info or mostly 110. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Danke
Fritz

edit: oops I see that thread now and it does look like 1st version......cool:thumbup:

Well, Fritz, I am pretty sure you have the 1V/1V 112. :D ;) :)

I agree with Haebbie. With the upside down Buck/USA blade stamp and the brass spring holder, it is a First Version, First Variation 112, so now you great buy is even more special!!

Edit: Whoa, something is not right here. Your photo shows the blade with a nail nick and those were added on the 2nd Version of Variation IV (ca. 1980-81), but the blade in question also shows the inverted stamp without the 112 and that number (line) was added, along with the stamp being right side up with the 1st Version of Variation II (ca. 1972-1974)!! There should not be inverted two liners with a nail nick. So now I am confused as well??

Nice and very interesting knife Fritz!!

Here is my 2 cents: Tin Sue noted the nail nick and of course the nail nick was absent until 1980 I believe. Also, look a your picture of the rear bolster. The edges have been ground to 45 degrees. This is a 1st Version 1st Variation that has had some serious attention from someone quite capable. I think the nick is a modification as is the edging.

And yes, I think Leroy can make it look new.

I think Flatlander is most likely correct in that the nail has been added as the standard nail nick on the 112's is located more distally on the blade.

Good catch fellows, I believe we will have to put it in the odd-ball/modified category. Fritz this wasn't the knife I was watching, it sold in the thirties and was a bargain for that. Yours is still a good catch for it specialness, it's still a first version.... Picture of second version, micarta coming up eventually. Its only a side line, one more and I will quit. 300Bucks

Just FYI

It unfortunately is NOT a first version since it has a nail nick. Here is a first version. After looking at the blade, I think the blade geometry is different from the first versions. It could be that a later blade was used on a first version.

Fritz I would still appreciate a good photo as described, for use in history.

Mike, Blow up the closeup of his tang on your screen and you will see it is a inverted stamp. Plus all brass rear bolster. Your blade call does look like it is different, gonna make me dig out Ver 2 var1 to look......????

Here is pic of Version 6, Variation 1 and 2. The . 112 . . era. The first 'factory' nail nic was put on variation 2, lower knife.

I'm tickled that this knife has generated so much discussion. I noticed the "ears" on the left and right corners of the nail nick but never thought of that as a matter of date. Also, Flat you mention the 45 degree ground on the bolsters and the pics dont show well but the liner side of the micarta is beveled all the way across th outer edges including bolsters. I really like the look of it and it fits better in my hand as well.

Bad side note:mad: I dropped the dang thing pulling it out of my pocket onto stone driveway when looking to show it off and now notice couple pock marks in the one scale....I ought to be shot:thumbdn: or stabbed perhaps. P**ses me off... shoulda used it to cut my hands off so I couldnt drop it:barf:

Hi Mike, nice to "meet" you. :)

The blade shape from your first version looks somewhat different to my 1st, more like Fritz's one. And the nail nick seems to be added later.

Best,
Haebbie

Fritz,
what a pity with the drop. Send the knife to Leroy. He will fix the damages.

Haebbie..Nice to "meet" you as well! ;)

I actually think yours and mine are similar blades, but yours is in much better condition than mine. I used mine daily for the better part of ten years back in the 70's then put it away until I became interested in Buck knives as a collector of sorts of half dozen years ago. Back in those days it was as close to a tactical knife that I could find.

Mike
