Hi folks -

Just wondering if anyone in here was bidding on the micarta 112 that sold Sunday 12.5?

I got sniped on this one, and it sold for $61.

I am looking to get a collection of the 112's up to the two dot, so I was bidding on that guy.

I don't want to be competing with any of my friends here if I can avoid it as I have plenty of time to amass my collection.

Not me m, but thats a nice thought. Hard to be practical about it though cause if you warn people, you either get nailed for deal spotting or generate way more bidding competitors-or both:(. I swear that ebay sellers troll this sight and raise their prices base on what we talk about, when a hot item is discussed. Hope you get one. Bucksway would certainly be the guy watching for 112's. Good luck on your noble quest:thumbup:

If you want one, go for it. No one here should get mad at you. We all have out bid one or another at times. :D

No wasn't me sniping....... this time....

If you got outbid.....there's a solution.

Bid higher next time.

Collusion to keep prices down is against the e-Bay rules and it's unethical and unfair to the seller.

Hi BG42EDGE -

With all due respect, I don't see how my not wanting to bid against my friends here is any different than your not wanting to take knives away from 110Dave.

I did not intend my post here to be one of collusion against ebay sellers any more than your not bidding against 110Dave on knives is collusion.

I regularly look for 112's on ebay, some for my collection of rare/odd/1 of 1 /prototype but mostly to learn about the model and to see whats out there...It's rare for me to see one that would qualify to go in my display..For instance take a Dave Yellowhorse 112,the only one's I display is a satin bladed early 'Lacy' and a 1 of 3 made blue Lapis handled 110=Dave commissioned..If I find something real early [pre 1983] I might bottom feed REAL LOW to get it but most of my collection has come thru private sales from BCCI members. It helps that I never deal or re sell any Buck but only buy to display at BCCI sponsored shows..E;bay does help to see trends and give SOME idea of prices but there is some real wide swings in selling prices for identical 112's one week to the next...

Hi bucksway -

Thank you -

I have noticed that about the knives that sell on ebay in general, some will go cheap and some will sell much higher.

I love the Yellowhorse versions, but they are out of my league in terms of what I am willing to spend on my collection.

I do not buy to turn around and sell - although I did buy one earlier in the year (a post two-dot) and then I traded it to a friend for a Buck hatchet.

I did pick up a very early 112 last night for $35. The seller had good in-focus pictures of the knife, except for the one picture of the blade edge which he said had some chips on it.

I will post pictures of it when it gets to my home.

It amazes me seeing these old Bucks come out of the woodwork, some of them new in the box etc. This is a fun hobby!

Agree 100% mqqn. Some of us like to make sure that we aren't bidding on something that a friend is also bidding on. I regularly check with some if I plan on bidding on something that I suspect they may be interested in also. In my opinion it's no different than when my brother and I were buying lots of fishing reels. We always checked with each other before we started bidding on a reel. I consider many of the guys here to be "brothers" of a sort.;)

Dang few of my eBay knife purchases come from bidding anyway, most come from BIN listings.

You must have missed this:

I usually leave the Goldies for 110Dave (and I know nothing about them)

I leave them for him (and everybody else) for good reason--because I know nothing about them and I don't really like them.

That's far from collusion.

Dave knows that if it's a knife I like, I'll be there bidding.

There are no friends at auctions and all's fair in love and the pursuit of knives (except the sort of collusion to cheat sellers that you suggested).

There are rules on e-Bay and there are ethical rules of fair play.

Nope wasn't me,lol as far as deal spotting we do it all the time.:)We just do it on the phone or email. If I find a good deal on a knife that a pal is looking for I'll tell him! That's what friends do and a friendship is more important than any knife. :D

You're right Tom, but what you have to remember is that some folks have no friends and therefore friendship means nothing to them.;)

 Zinger!!!!!!!!!! :D

Actually though, years back, IIRC 110dave posted a thread about that (ebay and bidding stuff) and Esav shut that down. Apparently it was a major no no... :(
I thought it was a great idea at the time, but now I just email as well :D

well, there was 1 that sold for 65...and I bid on that a few times, but I know know the seller...and his knives are top shelf....plus I collect 112s and know what they are worth:)

Hi guys -

No worries.

I'll pick one of those up eventually.

I did get a small-rivet wood handled 112 a couple days ago - I'll post pictures of it when it arrives. It is a little rough, so I will send it in for a refurb from the fine folks in Idaho.

I'll be watching for an old micarta version though....
