I recently aquired this 112 , the wood is lighter than I have seen before in Ebony but I know Ebony can have lot's of variation in color...
Does Segua wood ever have any dark streaks ?

Thanx for any answers...

Yes, ebony. I have some that have those light streaks in them as well. Keep looking. When you stumble onto a shedua-- bells go off in you head. DM

Remember that Buck used Macassar ebony from Southeast Asia, which runs the gamut from blond to almost black, usually a mixture of streaks of both. When you say ebony, most people think of Gaboon ebony from Africa, which is almost always uniform black. Both are equally hard and durable, and I like both.

That maybe true on other Forums but not on the Buck Forum as the collectors here know Buck used Macassar ebony. So, we use 'ebony' as a by word. Perhaps everybody does not know what wood we are meaning. DM

I just can't ever remember how to speel Macassar :D

It's irrelevant.

Gaboon ebony cannot be used anyway since the Gaboon was placed on the endangered species list in 2007.

The last Shedgua was hunted down in the highlands of Borneo in 1976 and Macassar Ebony is just too expensive since the Macassarites gained independence from the Belgians in 1988 and started limiting production.

It's all plywood all the time, now.
