I’m about to pull the trigger on a 112 Slim Pro and have read a few reviews that complain of blade play - and many reviews where this is not an issue. For those with experience.

Have they worked this out in the current runs? Wondering if this was just an initial problem that’s now solved.
Is the G10 vs the Micarta more prone to this issue?
Would ordering direct from Buck make any issue like this less likely?
Any experience with the Copper & Clad liner model which has red liner under the scales?

Just looking for some honest feedback given I’ll need to order sight unseen. Thanks.

I only know the 110s, dont own any 112s, but been collecting from the start. heres my experiences....

first version select super tight great grinds about perfect. the pros some blade play. nothing too bad but minor up and down.

later versions...selects have gotten looser. poor grinds on many and tips knocked off. pros have gotten better. tighter and less blade play. grinds have gotten worse though.

newest versions. meaning gotten in last couple months...

I only have one. its a select. very poor grind. blade play side to side on it. a friend at work got one same time same knife. his is tight like first versions. awesome and perfect grind.

grinds and missing points easy to fix. blade play harder to fix. involves factory return for most people.

it's hit and miss. if you can see them in person and hand pick you'll do far better. these selects are made in America and low dollar knives though so perfection is asking a lot. lifetime warranty so not much to worry about. its worth the risk of not getting a perfect one for the price points. ones I've gotten that aren't perfect I use for uglier tasks and they do fine for that. still just a cutting tool.

you can ask dealer to check for play and grinds etc. some will some wont. cant hurt to ask though.

I bought two of the 112 slim selects two years ago and both were perfect. No blade play at all, not tight and perfect grinds. I bought them directly from Buck for my two oldest grandkids and they love them. My 110 slim pro I got through c&c is perfect also so none of the slims I’ve gotten in 112s or 110 have had any issues. I hope you find a great one!

No complaints here.
Source doesn't matter.
A knife is a cutting tool.
A compact pocket knife is still just a cutting tool.
Folks that get all wound up about any level of blade play should consider buying a fixed blade knife.

I'm sure anything you decide on will be just fine.
Don't put it under a microscope and nitpick it..... put it in your pocket and judge it on how it does it's job.

Thanks for the feedback. Any comments on micarta vs the G10?

These are the questions I could answer myself in 30 seconds if I could find one in person to try. I still can’t get used to this world where we buy knives at online retailers without ever holding them. . .

I bought some 112 slimpros about 3 months ago by accident and never sent them back. Both were just fine IMO. No play, nice finish and grind.

It depends if the micarta is polish smooth or left with a fabric texture. Same with g10. I’ve seen g10 that was slicker than polished micarta and some with a slight texture so I think it depends how they are finished.

I like how micarta wears. To me it's sorta like a pair of jeans or boots.
My g10 knives still look almost new.
Hate to say it, but free returns from some dealers selling on the "big river" site. So if your concerned about that........
(hey-with some folks- just the thought of the added expense of returning an unwanted item will keep them from buying it)

Buy 2, keep your favorite.

A little stiff opening wise, but after two weeks and a little oil in the pivot, it’s nice and smooth for having no washers. Def worth the money.
