112 - to polish or to not to polish

I've got a 3 dot 112 NIB, unused, unsharpened, with sheath, box and paperwork.

Only issue it has is a fingerprint tarnished into it. I know not to excessively clean other knives, but is polishing the brass on the 110/112 an exception to the rule?

Also, do the 3 dots go for more than the 2 dots since they were only around one year?

Well the only argument I have is that its going to tarnish again:( That being said, I polish my brass periodically to keep it nice. I use Wrights brass polish and it wipes right off, never have to worry about anything excessive.

ps-knice nife:)

Polish that baby up!!!!

We don't drive ugly trucks......why would we walk around with an ugly knife???

:)

Well, mainly because I have a 2 dot I use and I was not planning on putting this into use considering it's age and condition.

(MODS DISCLAIMER - I am not trying to circumvent the rules, I am not soliciting sales, just info. If there is a problem, please let me know.)

I was thinking of listing it on the 'bay, and figured it would sell better if polished up, but wasn't sure if it would hurt the value or not.

Put a nice shine to that brass! I think most folks will bid better if you have it looking clean and polished.

try Flitz. That's what I use on my brass bolsters and my custom nickel bolsters.

I like MAAS, it works well for me, and that is what I have. ;)

That said, majority rules, I'll polish up it once I decide to list it, thanks.

My four-decade fave is Simichrome. Whatever you use, make SURE you mask the wood well before you polish up the brass.

I've done 100s of 110s and never masked the wood and never had any damage, but then I've never used Simichrome. Maybe the newer 110s are more sensitive?

Brasso, Wright's and Flitz all work great without any special precautions.

Shine'em up, wipe'em down with a little oil......that's all I do.

Thanks, I like the 112s. Problem is if/when I polish it up, I'll have a harder time turning loose of it.

Here's a 2 dot user/beater I use.

It is possible, even likely, that I am being too anal. :D
