Can the 112 do everything that the 110 can do, but minus the extra weight and size?

Personally, I seem to grab the 112 more often.

A subject making for nice academic discussion but things play differently in real life.DM

A lot of it is just what one becomes accustomed to using. For example, I have small hands and one would think that I would prefer the 112. However, I have used my 110 for many, many years and I am more comfortable with it in spite of its larger size. Now, I will gladly use a 112, but when cleaning rabbits, I am most comfortable with the 110 and I find myself really reliant upon the exact 110 blade length and clip point to skin off the membrane on a rabbit's saddle. Yes, I could probably get used to and successfully use another model, but why change what I know works best for me? If you have become more accustomed to a 112 or another model, I think you would feel most comfortable using that. Does this make sense to the rest of you?

I have always liked the 112, but it really depends on its intended use. I'm not a hunter but I would imagine that the extra blade length of the 110 would make it much more suitable for dressing out large game. The 112 was designed after there were several knife related fights onboard the USS Ranger back in the early 70's. As a result, the commanding officer outlawed all knives with a blade length greater than 3 inches. In response to that restriction, Buck designed the 112 "Ranger" to allow an alternative for shipboard us. Ironically the 3 inch restriction never went navy wide and it turned out that sailors now have a choice. I agree that the 112 is a great choice for use as a utility type of knife.

(This explanation was given to me by Chuck Buck at the 20 year BCCI event this past summer in Post Falls)

Mike, I agree most w/ your last sentence.
Larry, Yes I know exactly what your saying. The task does not always merit a large knife, in our case the 110. But after getting used to it the shoe fits nicely.DM

i have used the 110 from 1967..
the 112 come out and i had to have one!
i likethe looks better and yes it can do any thing the 110 can..
but it does not fit my hands.. 1/2 inch may have made the diff but not to be..

like larry i use a 110 because i have and i am used to it..
you should use what you are comfortable with

times i have called the 112 a girls knife..
that was to tease my brother who collects it and
that all the gal's i know that went with a buck chose the 112
jest as my daughter did..

I prefer the 112 but it's really a personal choice, I just happen to like the slightly shorter blade and overall size. Thanks for relaying the story Mike, I had never heard that!
