When were these ever available and how would one go about finding one now?

I have a friend that had one that was a gift to him in the 90s and he has lost it. He hopes to replace it and I offered to help him since I find myself researching all things Buck these days.

Did Buck offer custom 112s at some point?

If anyone has one with which they'd part, I'm all ears!

I suggest you go to e-bay, type in the search bar "Buck 112 Nickel Silver" (or NS) and see what comes up. They appear quite frequently.

You can also google David Yellowhorse for the various places that sell his work. He has a lot of 112s in NS, if you are willing to spend the big bucks.

I saw one that must have ended yesterday. You may check with Eric at Arksknives, he often will have the N/S 112's that he has customized.

The eBay suggestion is good. I think there're quite a lot of these out there. Used to be able to find 'em at Walmart, I think in the mid-to-late '90s (I bought two there). Shouldn't be too hard to find in the secondary market.

I bought one years ago from cutlery shoppe for my dad

If you get lucky you will find a finger groove NC framed 112.. I 'think' one of the DU LE's was NS..There was a BCCI NS Stag offered a few years back..Try a 422 also,it's a 112 [some even have 112 blades] Arksknives does NICE NICE work!! He's on my very short list of after market builders to add to my rare/odd 1 of 1/proto 112 collection...A DP FG 112 I feel is the best of all Buck knives for a EDC..

All I've seen were special edition models on the bay and there are very few of those. I'll keep looking though. If nothing else, Arksknives would be an excellent option. I'm not sure what the guy wants to spend, though.
