Has Buck made the 117 in anything other than 420HC? This knife screams for S35VN or CTS-XHP (!).

While we're discussing the 117, I would also like to know two things:

1) Is the choil large enough for comfortable/useful finger placement?

2) I read that the 117 sheath is actually a 105 sheath and is too long for the blade. Is this true and is the sheath marked 117 or 105?

I'm not aware of any other steel than 420HC.

C&C did commission Buck to make this model.

In a thread I started a little while ago I got confirmation that the current 118 sheath fits better. I wonder why C&C didn't include it instead?

Sad fact imho is the Buck factory sheaths aren't that.great anyway. If you are really going to use one then a custom sheath is probably, in your future anyway.

I wonder why they did not use the 118 Sheath, but don't let an extra inch of sheath stop you from buying a 117. It is just about the perfectly sized and shaped knife.

The choil is not big enough for my finger. If I choke up on a knife I tend to pinch it between my thumb and forefinger anyway.
