Congratulations to the new owner.

I hope you can find the time to post a few photographs when the knife arrives. Thank you in advance.

I didn't bid, but I was ready to see the price skyrocket at the end of the bidding.

Didn't happen.

Whoever got it....... got a real bargain.

Congrats!

Camillus WWII lifeboat knife (Hoyt added his own blade and the Buck 117 was born): $14.50 off the auction place, missing one forward scale pin, some pitting on the blade, dirty dirtier dirtiest knife I own even after some cleaning and oiling:

Purpose: Use this knife to better identify a Buck 117 if I happen upon one. Of course, the actual Buck 117 will have a clip-point (pointy) blade and the "BUCK" stamp on the pivot end of one side of the blade (and a brass pivot pin, I think).

I'm still studying the knife used for the 117 so I got another Camillus lifeboat knife.

This one has some differences from the one pictured above: Steel liners, pivot pin can't be seen thru the bolsters, verbage on blade near pivot says "Camillus, Cutlery Co, Camillus NY, USA" on one side and I can't see any imprint on the reverse.

I wonder if Hoyt used different versions of the Camillus lifeboat knife for the 117? Were they all brass liners or were some steel liners?

I saw a link where knives similar to the Camillus Lifeboat folders were being sold (small country store near Durham, NC) nos, inside of clear plastic bags along with other lifeboat stuff. Anyone have access to this seller or these bags? https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/knife_forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2772&start=0
