I picked this 118 at a pawn shop several months ago, my question is if it is a barrel nut or not, I am unable to see any side pins or any mark for the end cap over the nut, Any suggestions or comments would help.118 1 line butt.jpg118 1 line-3.jpg118 1 line 4-13.jpg

Well, the pommel shape is early for sure and there has to be a pin or plug somewhere......
Try this, polishl/cleanup the end and sides a little then exhale moist breath onto the aluminum and look quick....
Works for me....YMMV.... let us know....

Thanks DeSotosky, I tried polishing, light grit paper followed by polishing, even a spell in the freezer for more condensation. I can not for the life of me see any trace of a pin or plug. On most all my other 100 series knives they are somewhat easy to see.118-7-27e.jpg118-7-27a.jpg118-7-27b.jpg118-7-27c.jpg

I can vaguely see the pin in the side of the pommel. I can see it in the first picture in the third post, its faint but I can see it. I'm 99% certain it is not a barrel nut configuration knife.

I see what you mean, Matt. Question: did they ever use these red spacers for barrel nuts?

Haebbie

Yes, the red hard fiber spacers were used with barrel nut models from mid 62 to early 63 like April. DM
