I got this one today and it is a peach. The black handle makes the rich brass look great. And the handle is bigger than that of the vintage Personal. The brass guard is thicker.

A few pics with a vintage 118 sporting bone hard fiber.

The sheath has "105" set into the leather just below silver stud fixing the belt loop to the sheath.

Excellent grind on the blade. Dang sharp and quite pointy.

Feels like my Birthday and Christmas rolled into one.

It is called the "Personal" because it was the personal favorite model of the founder Hoyt Buck. A high recommendation IMHO.

Great knife!! I want one too, to complete the Golden Series with the 102, 103 and 119

Mine are scheduled to be here Wednesday. I've noticed that so far, none have hit the auction site.

I'm sure there are a few people hoping they show up on an auction site so they have a chance to buy one.

Thank you for the kind words Tew, ITE, BG, Haebbie & CA Dave.

When I had this fixed blade out on the desk, even in my dark cave of an office, my eye lit up as if I was watching a fire. It is quite a looker with tool steel business end!

I owe CA Dave for taking the financial lead in capturing web specials/build outs before vendors feed on them. Way to go Dave. You are all right. How many Buck collectors, insiders, would have empty pockets and displays without your bold and forward-looking attitude? Lots. Thank you Dave. You are all right. Many thanks.

Reflected in the shiny brass hilt is a patch of blue sky :).

I understand that you can cut meat all day and not lose an ounce of sharp with D2 tool steel.

Good tang stamping on both sides: strong, clear, crisp, not too large, not too small and helpful to know what kind of steel (so you have a hint how to take care of it and what to expect in the performance arena) you have in your hand. The "D2" tells you whether or not to take a sharpener to the field with you.

Very nice pictures once again Steve. Regarding the 105 sheath, the only 118 Build Outs that came with a 118 sheath were the Stag and Palmwood handled versions. All the others came with the 105 sheath.

The 105 sheath isn't a bad fit, it's just a tad bit longer than the 118 sheath. Here they are together. I'll take some side by side pictures of the Dymondwood/Aluminum and theDymondwood/Brass versions when mine get here.

Thank you Dave. Good to know.

California Dave: Encyclopedia with brilliant photos!

Here's the previous four 118 Build Outs, and I'm looking forward to adding the latest one to this group. If you can see it, the Palmwood model is a bit smaller than the other three. I just wish that Buck had used some of those D2 blades when they made the Palmwood version.

The Stag handle looks massive compared to the others.

I don't understand palmwood enough to know if I like it or not. I enjoy coconuts. Yes I do.

No Palmwood, no brass guard and pommel :(

but the others are great too, aren't they? ;)

They will probably be on the bay soon. I picked up the 0118B03-B late last year or early this year, can't remember which. Date on box is 12/02/2010. I only saw 2 of them pass through but I'm sure that I missed others.

I can account for 11 of the 22 (or 20) that were made this time. There's shouldn't be a big bunch that make it to the bay. There were over 4 times as many BO3's (99) made than this one if the numbers on the build out list are to be believed.
