I can't find much information and was wondering how/why this happened, has it happened before, and how many were sold? My box is dated 7/31/2014. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same model and mine is stamped with the same stamp. Box is lettered, '118BOB-01' and a 8-15-08 date. I think around 300 were made. DM

Smoky Mountain exclusive from 2014. The model 118 limited run of 200 in D2 steel.
I was pleased that I received one with Buck/Custom stamped on both sides of the tang.
The D2 118 blades were leftover from the 2002 Family Favorites which never sold as predicted.
I don't think the double stamping is particulary rare as a number of us seem to have them.

Mine has the same stamp only from 2008. Are you sure these were only a Smokey Mountain offering? DM

David, I think we talked about this in the past. The projected run for the Family Favorites 4 knife set was 1,000. I think less than 100 of the $3,000 sets were actually made.
Buck has used the leftover D2 118 blades for multiple projects since then. Mine came from Smoky Mountain in 2014 but that was not the only project offering over the years.

One with wooden handle, one with phenolic. As I remember: the bison chip flint has the same blade too but the stamp is mostly ground away.
