I was fortunate to purchase a used Buck 118 at a local gun show this last weekend and have a few questions. The knife is unsharpened and in it's flap sheath; it and the sheath have little, if any, evidence of use. The marking on the blade is in three lines: BUCK/118/U.S.A., and the marking is upside down; i.e., marks are readable with the point down. I believe the knife was made between 1968 and 1972; is that correct? I also read that the model 118 was discontinued; if so, when did that occur. The knife is in almost new condition and I feel lucky to have found it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Nice find!! Good price?
We love pics ;)
1972 sounds right! The last catalog I can find the 118 Personal (with phenolic) was in the 1997-1998 catalog.

It was reissued last year as a limited edition with mirror 420HC blade and stag handle.

You are correct on all counts, as far as I know.

Nice find. I don't know exactly when it was dropped from the catalogue, but someone will be along shortly to tell you, I'm sure. It's only been gone for a few years that I know of.

I can't narrow down the vintage, either, but the more spacers in the handle you have, the better.

:)

Nice knife, an inverted 3 line, should have 4 micarta spacers, 2 @ the finger guard & 2 @ the pommel. Old 440C blade will hold a nice edge :)

Price was $45 after a little bit of haggling. Spacers: two phenolic and one aluminum at butt, two phenolic and one aluminum at guard (not counting guard. Thanks for all the helpful responses!
