Hello everyone,

I am interested in buying (and possibly modifying) a Brahma version of the 119 or 117 and I have a few questions for those of you who own one.

My first question concerns the construction. Is the nut at the end of the handle exactly that, and can it be easily removed allowing the entire handle to be removed from the blade?

If removing the handle is possible my other questions are what is the blade coating (it doesn't appear to be a cerakoat type) and what might be the best way to remove it?

Thanks.

Best,
Matthew

yeah I had a 119 version. never took it apart but the end piece is a nut from what I read. it's a stick type tang. not sure on the coating. it will sand off for sure, but some chemical might remove it. let the folks who have done it answer you, so ya get the right info.

Its doable with 1000grit but it will reveal the imperfections in the steel when you get the coating off so you may need to move to a lower grit to completely smooth it out. Then go back to the higher grit if you want to polish it.

Pretty sure the blade coating is black oxide. When I got by Brahma the guard was loose enough to rattle. Stuck an Allen wrench through the hole in the nut on the end of the handle and tightened it right up. I believe if a person unscrewed it the handle could be taken apart. Would it come apart easily? Can't say.

The coating would come off with paint stripper, no problem. I'm pretty sure if you took the nut off and the pin out you could get the handle off without much trouble.
