119 guard question

Hi all, please know that this is not a complaint or a slam post!

Being a new member of the Buck Collectors Club, I thought I'd finally pick up the 119 that I've wanted since I was a kid. I went down to the new Bass Pro shop and got one for $55 (even though the box still said $49).

I guess I had never seen one in the sheath before because I was blown away by what a nice package it was, especially for that price. Anyway, after I get it home and spend some couch time admiring my new knife I noticed that the guard was loose, so my question is, is this normal? If not, I don't really want to send it in, is there a recommended fix I can do at home?

I did a search under "loose" and didn't find anything about this, so I'm guessing mine was just a miss at the factory. Don't get me wrong- I still think this is a heck of a knife for the price, and the grind and edge is actually better than some of my more expensive knives, but I know that the looseness is going to get to me, so I'd like to fix it.

Thanks for any help, Mike

MVF!
For what it is worth coming from me....Welcome aboard the BCCI !!!! :)
Nope. The guard is to be tight tight tight. As a new member, you have the chance to prove to yourself the Buck 4-ever warranty! Give 'em a call from the number on the website or even easier(?) take the knife back to Bass Pro and exchange it there. BP can handle the details of exchange with Buck and you get the immediate gratification that you paid for(!!!) with a new 119 Buck in-hand!
BTW- I have never had to warranty a Buck. Perhaps I could send in a Sirus that had a minute fastener strip but I was oiling the thingy with Kroil so it would break the sound barrier when opening....but that is a different thread, and my BCCI # is 728! What does that tell you MVF? Got my first Buck in '75....I think ;)

Thanks guys. I guess I'll head back to Bass Pro. I didn't want to just start dumping in some super glue not knowing how the handle material would react!

I was in our local Wally World the other day (<1 mile) and the 119 was still it's usual $34 + s/t - but for the nylon sheath version. I did get the leather sheath version last September at an 'Academy Outdoors' chain for $37 + s/t. Our nearest Bass Pro is ~100 miles - near Montgomery, although they finally started working on the one near Leeds (~25 miles). I'd return your 119 - it is defective. Of course, Buck will make it right - if nothing else!

The version I am referring to is the basic 119 - polished aluminum guard and pommel with a black phenolic handle. If you got the 119BR 'upgrade' model with the brass finger guard and pommel and rosewood laminate handle, that $55 is a really decent price - not everyone carries it, either! I think I ordered my 119BR from B P - it was 'too pretty' to use... it wasn't until last fall that I found out how utilitarian that 119 is. Great in the yard for pruning - or the kitchen to chop veggies - or trim/slice meats. Hmmm, probably good for hunting, too!

Wow- that's sure a big difference in price! It is the "plain Jane" version- they wanted $79 for the wood handled version.
