Recommendation? 119 sheath

While I know you don't like paying for the nicer sheaths but trust me, a good sheath makes a knife that much better to use, IMO. It can add up fast getting some custom sheaths made to your liking but if it gets you using your blade, so worth it.

So is it just that flap you're trying to get away from or the whole snap around the handle type of thing? Sounds like the stock sheath isn't for you, is it the leather one or the nylon? I'm pretty sure I have an extra nylon; if interested I can see if I can get a snug fit with a heat gun on the plastic sheath and send it your way. I have one of Makael Makael 's for my 75th anniversary collector piece and a stock leather for my 5160 user. The nylon will never see use, is what I'm saying, so if I can get the retention you're looking for it may serve your needs on the cheap.

There should be several difference places doing kydex and most of them are good. I have no experience with the one you're looking at as I'm more of a leather guy. A nice wet-formed leather is amazing but Makael makes his tight so the retention is good, almost too good until they wear in a bit.

It's just how it releases that I find tedius.
If I have to pay $40-$50 to get what I want that's what I'll do

I think Makael Makael is your guy. He does really nice work and I have to think he would be able to work something up at a reduced cost but you would have to talk with him on that. I think he makes a product very high in value, even if it costs a little extra.

It does look like the buck brahma sheath is designed a bit differently that may suit your fancy; the brahma basically being a military looking 119. But, I only see the smaller 117 brahma sheath available on buck's website. Price looks like it would be favorable based on the 117 though. It may be a worth a call to Buck to see what they have available.

As and aside, I've been trying out a few of the nylon sheaths from Ontario available at various online retailers for an inexpensive sheath option. They're not great and the size isn't perfect but there are enough options to get pretty close on many different fixed blades if you need something to inexpensive. I went the route for some scrap yard knives, 311 and 911, as they don't come with sheaths at all.

I've found KaBar sheaths on sale cheap. I like the design, and use them as beaters. Even my Randall sometimes rides in a KaBar sheath.

Last time I paid $10 each for ones marked USN.
