Not an issue?

Ive seen talk of the cold steel recon scout being changed from a 90 degree transistion to a radiused transition to provide more strength and to reduce chances of blade breakage at the former 90 degree transition at the guard.

Now id never baton or beat my 119s like folks have done with their recon scouts and kabars etc......but the question stands...is it a weak design to have a 90 degree at the guard to the hidden tang or being used as a hunting knife as designed a nonissue? Appreciate any feedback, thank you Sirs.

I don't know of any failures. But that's me.:)

I think that knife is around 60 year old design with probably millions sold and used around the world. I did pick up a 5160 version, which I love.

Buck's 119 tang is not ground to 90*. It is a radius. There have been photos posted of it. You may search this site and find them. DM

Thanks gentlemen. Missed that......going back to look at pics in more detail. Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated.

Your welcome. A clue; search 'TAH' as he posted the photo and this generated some discussion. DM

If using the knife for its intended purpose, it won't matter if the shoulders are square or have a radius. Searching around the internet, I find more 119s with square shoulders. Great knife. Use with confidence.

Thank you Sirs.

I had seen some of those more 90 shoulders and that got me in a wrong direction of thinking. Appreciate the education and pictures clarifying.
