I've been using my BK9 exclusively outdoors. I love it. That said if the BK2 was longer, as long as the BK9 or better I think I could potentially out perform the BK9. Just thinking out loud here seeing what anyone here thinks. The BK9 bites hard in wood chopping but lacks in splitting compared to the 1/4 inch stock of the BK2.

maybe give it the same height as the bk9 so it bites in the wood still like a machete.... Again love both the BK2 and the BK9.... but a 1/4, saber grind hybrid of them... I'm in

Yup...... You are preaching to the Choir...... Haha
We've been saying/asking for IT for a Long time.

It always puzzles me when I want to spend money on stuff that nobody makes.
I find that Alot across the board with stuff.
*I started making knives, because of all the knives I wanted, that will never exist. :(

The BK2 is a genius design. It looks so simple, but actually that is why it is so clever. Unbelievable versatile! The only thing to improve is the reach of the 5" blade.

A longer version would be the bees knees and my outdoor grail...

Make it an take my 💰

MachAx 2.0... might have to draw one up and have that CNC cut and ...

3/8 thick, pretty much the same thing just 50% longer, meatier. more khurku/parang.

5160?

mmm

been on my mind...

Sounds like a Siegle project. :D

With that much steel I'd want FFG - wouldn't split as well.
Do love my 7"x0.200" FFG leuku, so I think it's a winning combo.

Derek H had a 10" BK2 made and hated it -- poorly balanced, heavy, hard to control, too much arm fatigue.
OTOH, making a stretched BK9/2 with the drop point tip, solid tang, 3/16" steel, and micarta or G10 scales could be a lot of fun.

While I agree that a thicker BK9 might be interesting, I do question how the balance and handling would be.

However, of critical import is the notion, even if true, that obe blade could medley two and allow but one purchase instead of two.

Heresy I say, in the context of both Beckerhead and Blade forums theology!

I have a brand new BK2 that I’ve never used.

I do, however, use the BK9 quite often. I really like how it spans across a relatively wide spectrum of uses.

For splitting rounds I consider fire sized (4 inch diameter up to 10 inch) I use a different blade. I could see a stretched BK2 being a great baton tool, but not so great at much else. That steep angle of those wider blades makes the blade skip off the wood unless you have a wide angle of attack.

Saying all that, I would still buy one :p

I had a 2 many years ago. I still kind of like it, but it was replaced by an Ontario RD Tanto. Splitting with the 2 was never an issue for me. I carried it solely while metal detecting in the Boreal forest for about 5-6 months ? I have enough axes, hatchets and knives to mix and match, not to be searching for any Grail. It's a fun exercise though. Old pictures, I apologize for the poor quality.

It’s a chopping beast that bites hard! If you’ve used a 20, 29, or 21, its balance is not much different. I’d buy an official in a heartbeat.
