The Reti travelled to Clearwater Florida (HI do not ship to India but that's another story) where my mail forwarder put it in FedEx International Priority and it arrived in New Delhi Thursday. It is currently gathering dust at something called the Preventive NOC (go figure) pending receipt of the following documents:
- Order confirmation from seller
- Purchase invoice
- Proof of payment (my PayPal statement)
Per FedEx it will take a week before I hear anything. That's if the All-knowing mandarins at said Preventive NOC do not raise any objections or worst case scenario decide to impound the knife.
Interestingly on three previous occasions (CAK, M43, Panchthar Chitlangi) I provided no paperwork but the khuks came thru ok, with a customs duty charge between 50-100 USD each time. This time it looks like I wasn't that lucky.

Folks in India buying from HI, you are warned. Ensure that your paperwork is in order and that your mail forwarder in USA puts the docs in that triangular box before they ship!

Wow. What a bummer. I've had some nightmares with customs over the past few years, so good luck to you, Amko.

Thanks Bookie. Current status: Apparently India Customs have assessed the knife value (per FedEx) but FedEx/I have no idea what they choose to value it at. Next it will be "examined" by Customs.
I fear the worst but doing my best to remain positive. Will keep you posted.

If the blade is less than 9 inch it will be released with a duty. Have had many knives help up to be released eventually.

Ironically, the whole point of using FedEx was to minimize shipping delays. On three previous occasions (all HI khukuris with 9+ inch blades - and yes zero accompanying paperwork) - the shipment came thru in 4 business days each time, with duty payable.
I assumed things would be the same this time as well.
I was wrong.
It is now 15 days since the shipment reached New Delhi. All FedEx say on their website is Clearance in Progress. My knife is probably gathering dust at Customs. Huh.

"Preventive" Examination is done. Shipment is now forwarded for further clearance (by Customs). Per FedEx it takes 72 hrs until it's released by Customs. Of course no telling when it'll actually arrive.

Update: per FedEx the Reti was released from Customs with a 40 dollar Customs duty but will take another 3 working days to arrive.

You must post photos Amko!

Finally! Reti is here!

Magical to the max...is 12.5" OAL but so beautifully proportioned that it somehow appears smaller. Perfect for concealed carry. Great edge, shaved paper straight away. The filed parts look cool. A mini Kobra for sure.

Thanks Auntie. Will be raising a toast to Kumar tonight!

This little guy took a month to get here but it taught me that good things in life are worth the wait!
