My Grandfather was always upset that neither my Brother nor I went into the Navy (career Army guys). I never understood why he wanted us to go that way since he lost a ship at Pearl Harbor and at least one more in the N. Atlantic. He couldn't talk about much of it even when he was in his 80's. He had been in since '38 but when the war was done my Grandmother did NOT want him to stay in any longer so he got out and went into construction type stuff. Helped build Dulles airport and then retired from there.

Sadly, the world always seem to be at war at some level. He saw his, my Dad his with Vietnam, Father in Law with Korea and then some small ones during my time in along with OEF and OIF near the end.

Thank you John and ohen. Prior to this day my Father in Law was in the Army Air Corp (ROTC) cadet training. Predecessor to Air Force ROTC. About this time of night on that day the entire unit got orders and was flown out to an airfield in Abilene, TX.. Six weeks later they were in the Pacific dropping welcome mats on Japanese targets with a Lieutenant named Dolittle. Most of them were a ripe age of 20. When I watch some of our 20 year olds today I can't help but think we'd be speaking German now if it was up to these. DM

JB, this all I could find...

As a 20 year old, I'm not being defensive when I say, I believe the same men who fought in world war II, raised today, would be the same as us. Everyone is a product of society, and parenting.
Times have changed. We were fighting for the safety of the world. Now the only fighting is just to keep the war machine turning so the money can flow. What made America great, also detracted from it over time.

I mean no disrespect to those who serve/served, I myself went to MEPS, almost a marine (99 asvab, all that good stuff). But I changed my mind when I looked around and realized I wasn't going to fight for my fellow citizens, just the execs at Lockheed martin.

All that being said; every life given to help others is one honored in my book. And thank you to any who have served
