This was the knife featured on the cover of the 2009 AKI catalog. Sold at the show. The handles is antique tortoise inlaid in 4 color gold, yellow, green, white, and rose. Inlay was done by maker and shading of flowers by Tim George. All other work done by maker.

This folder seems even more glorious on the black background of the AKI cover - but when one really looks at it for awhile, much more detail and color emerges when not against the black background. It's just an amazing piece!

Handling this folder was a very interesting experience.... Almost unbelievable.
By the way it was a Bid Up knife, starting at $17,000.

All the best,

I was hoping to see some pictures posted of Gray's knives following the AKI. I can hardly think of work that better defines the term "Art Knife".

That piece is everything that one could wish.

Congratulations to the new owner, and especially to Gray and Evelyn on wonderful work.

That IS just amazing. I would relish the opportunity to handle that!

Pleasure seeing it. Thanks for posting it.

Complex to the point of extreme. Articulate to the point of mastery. Worthy of the cover shot.

(Although I have yet to see the catalog, having missed a few opportunities. :()

Eric really nailed the piece. Impressive all around.

Dang it! Whenever I think I am getting this slipjoint thing down you go and post this knife!! Just an incredible display of what a gifted artist is capable of doing.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful work here.:thumbup:
