Probably also contains some trace elements like Si, Al, S, & Ph.

I've had 2 knives w/ this stuff and it works very well IMHO. It is capable of taking a very sharp edge, one of the sharpest Ive seen.
The alloy data is from Wayne Goddards book "The Wonder of Knifemaking."

12C27 is one of only a few alloys that has been developed specifically for the purpose of making knives. And it's been successfully used for knives for decades. If it wasn't good, it would have fallen into the scrap bin of metals history decades ago.

Today, 12C27 is getting a bit dated, true. It's not the next phase, new wave, dance craze steel du jour. But it still works pretty well.
