Posting this to remind everyone to inspect their blades before, during, and after use.
I have not used this khuk, and probably will not ever use it, even though it feels great in my hand. It hangs on my wall, as a visual reminder of a good man, Uncle Bill Martino.

I was taking a close look after I wiped it down from a good oiling and found this:

Yangdu, I am not sending this one back to you, because as I said, it only hangs on my wall.

Wow, Bill !
You are correct, everyone should inspect their khukuri thouroughly upon arrival to be sure things like that are noticed from the start. It seems that it is cracked right at the transition where the sweet spot ends and the tip begins. It could possibly be due to cooling too quickly when the pine was set. It is up to you if you wish to notify Auntie Yangdu. Wether you choose to have it replaced or not, i would at least let her know about it, so that the problem can corrected.

Absolutely! I do look them over before I go swinging them but that is a good way to show folks why.

Thanks for the heads up Bill. I don't check my blades that closely as a rule but I guess I better go and make sure. Safety first and all.

Bill, email me your mailing address and I will ship the replacement Salyan Khukuri today via USPS.

I have a number of khukuris, and got a Sirupati that had a small crack near the tip, but on the top - the spine. I ground it out and reshaped the tip using a file.
It was fine after some work, but the crack was very close to the point. The fix was easy, because the top of the blade is soft and easy to work.
