Pardon me for posting twice in a row, but I have time right now........

This blade is probably the largest blade I've done. Its similar to the Musso Bowie and will have a brass S guard and pommel. It is the third one I forged, the first two either warping or cracking. It represents a lot of work. Its 12 inches and 2 1/2 inches wide and is made of 5160.

Thanks, Lin :)

That is one big bad broad blade -love it! Make sure to show us the finished product.

I love the blade. I'm not sure about the brass back. BTW, what is the role of this? Purely esthetical?

It was used to grab your opponents blade.Or so they tell me.

Thats true Randy, the softer brass was to catch the opponents blade. Also the S guard was'nt just to look pretty. The top part helped catch and ward off a blade and the opposite curve on the bottom shed the other man's blade away from your knuckles. Thanks, Lin

Destined for the "Knives That Make Me Grunt" file for sure!

Now that is going to be one sweet Bowie ....... the brass back is interesting when put in context.

Cheers,

Stephen

My personal preference would probably be without the brass back, but I do like some of the Musso style bowies that I have seen. It will be interesting to see what this one looks like when it is done.

Bowled over by that blade and just love the brass parry strip.Hoping, maybe wishfully,at a shot at this one.Do ya' have any ideas about the handle? :)

Leatherbird, I will get back on it in about two weeks. I have a couple of orders to get done. I cant wait myself! I want to take it to the Little Rock show for a centerpiece for my table, but its for sale. I am leaning toward Boisdarc for the handle. I have a small amount of the green boisdarc that I'm thinking about using. The color will moderate with time, but I think it will always be dark/green. If you have a suggestion, just give me an email. I'll be glad to hear it. Lin :)

Boy Lin, that is one great blade! I'm always impressed by big knives that don't look big :). Without the ruler or business card I'd swear that's a 7.5" blade. Great proportions. And I like the brass back too.
