12 trapped West Virginia miners found alive

Twelve miners caught in an explosion in a coal mine were found alive Tuesday night, sending family members streaming from the church where they had gathered during the nearly two-day ordeal. Joyous shouts rose of "Praise the Lord!"
Rescue crews found the body of a 13th miner earlier Tuesday evening
Sometimes there are happy endings.

Never give up!

Come and listen, young fellers, so young and so fine
And seek not your fortune in the dark dreary mines
It will form as a habit and seep in your soul
'Til the stream of your blood runs as black as the coal

Where it's dark as a dungeon and damp as the dew
Where the dangers are double and the pleasures are few
Where the rain never falls and the sun never shines
It's dark as a dungeon way down in the mines

There's many a man who I've known in my day
Who lived just to labor his whole life away
Like a fiend with his dope or a drunkard his wine
A man will have lust for the lure of the mines

Well I hope when I'm gone and the ages shall roll
My body will blacken and turn into coal
Then I'll look from the door of my heavenly home
And pity the miner that's digging my bones

I also heard it here first.
Thanks Esav.

It's good to wake up to good news.

Unfortunately, no they are not, apparently there has been a mistake, 11 of the 12 they were still searching for are confirmed dead.

Only 1 has survived.

Sorry man, but it seems the reverse is true. A miscommunication of sorts lead everyone to believe that all but one lived thru the ordeal, but it seems that there was only one survivor by the name of Randal McCloy, who is in pretty bad shape. I just saw it on the news right now, and I found a link to the story here : http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20060102114609990005&ncid=NWS00010000000001

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we can just look at the only good thing out of this all, that being that at least one guy survived. They said he was stabilized and taken to some other hospital or part of the hospital or something like that. I would assume if they stabilized him he'll be ok. This kid will be in my prayers, as well as the families of the men who were not as fortunate.

tragic. and that it was misreported like that to the families must make it 10 times worse. awful.

They said on the radio this morning that it was a misinterpeted phone call to command center, somebody/news agency overheard them talking on the phone and in thier rush to be the first to report the news assumed it was with the miners.

dam press-the feeding frenzy just added a whole lot of sadness to a sad situation-

my best to the famillies

A great old country song, by one of my favorite guitar pickers.

A sad, but true, commentary on this disaster.

Yes the media was SO quick to report survivorsand nobody waited for confirmation . Even the Governor joined in , he should have at least made phone calls.Shame on all of them !!

I think the problem was more that the company did not maintain good communications on its progress. If there had been a steady stream of information or even confirmation that nothing was known since the last report, the media would not have been at the mercy of a misreported phone call.

Unlike high-profile situations in the more usual places for media attention, this was a small town with no experience in dealing with national news teams. The Governor's office could have helped more, too, but it really was the company's responsibility to keep the media -- at least, keep the families -- informed of what was going on and what they knew as soon as they knew it.

I will leave the recriminations to those people most directly involved. After all this, I can only wish the families and friends and neighbors whatever solace they can find.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me...
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
as long as life endures.

When we've been here ten thousand years...
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
then when we've first begun.

"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see

I watched the same type of scenario unfold live approx. 2 weeks ago with the the Miami plane crash into the ocean just offshore. The news reported 16 survivors and 3 deceased. They even showed live video of "survivors" being rolled away on stretchers to awaiting rescue units. The next day we find out all 19 passengers and crew members persished in the crash with no rescues.

The media no longer worries about journalism or accuracy in their reports, just getting out a story, any story, quick and hopefully first. I truly believe that this compounds a tragedy to a whole new terrible level for those with loved ones involved.
