12" Sheath

A while back I stiched up a sheath for a 12" AK, and as it turns out it will also hold my new 12" Siru just as well, along with a couple rennovated AC Kardas. This sheath rides very high on the belt, and I made it as an experiment to see if a khuk could be carried that high. It works and is not floppy at all, probably due to the weight-forward characteristics of the khuk which keep the center of gravity low on the belt.

If mounted in front, this thing rides like it would if carried in a sash. If mounted to the side, it is out of the way and and pretty well out of sight under a short jacket or vest. The objective was not concealment, but rather to avoid a floppy sheath on the belt and allow access in the cold without having to unbutton one's whole coat. Hiding the thing turned out to be a side-benefit.

Here is the backside. The sheath is stabilized by a fairly long belt-channel, and it helps to make a slat of wood the width and thickness of your belt and wet-mold it with the slat in place. Otherwise, the channel will be tight and you will have a hail of a time sliding it on your belt.

Cliff?

That is just perfect! Nice concept, beautiful work. Makes the 12 inch Khukuri an even-more perfect edged tool.

Are you a leather-worker by profession or advocation?:)

Thanks for the kind comments gents. If the pictures were a bit clearer, the crudeness of my stichery would be more evident but for those with greater skill a sheath like this is worth a try. I'm still a fan of the Sarki Shop WWII scabbards for any khuk over 12" though, and don't believe they can be improved on.

Yeah, Cliff...

Now that I look at it, it is pretty crude. You should get rid of it. Tell you what...send it down to Wisconsin and I'll dispose of it for you.:)

No...No...Don't thank me. It's just part of being a member of the Cantina. Email me for My address. We are a brotherhood, after all.

Boris... er, Kis, you're putting yourself out too much. Careful you don't explode.
