I bought a 12" Tramontina from Laci Szabo. It came with a tight kydex sheath and it was sharpened up. The sheath probably cost 4 times what the machete did, but it makes for a pretty nice package. The sheath holds the machete very tightly and can be affixed to pretty much any size belt. Its light and easy to carry.

Anyways, its cold here, so I didn't do much, but I chopped down a few sumac bushes\trees with diameters up to about 4 inches. It didn't work like my HI WWII Khuk, but it did the job. Although the slim blade did get stuck on occasion, it easily pulled free. I also but a few maple limbs and it worked equally well. No rolling the edge or anything. It did not do so well with light brush, I think its just too short for that sort of thing.

Anyway, you should check out Laci Szabo's website, its pretty neat. Also, I had a couple of questions and he took care of things right away, so service was top notch.

Thanks for posting the website. I realized I should a dont that after I logged off for the day.

I have been looking at one for a while as well. I went back there and looked over the sight after this reminded me. Can you go into more depth as to what they actually did to the blade? Full Regrind? It is totally convex now?

Thanks

I will study the edge a little tonite. I'm at the office right now. I don't think its a convex edge.

Cerberus: I checked the tramontina last nite. It is not a convex edge. They did do a full regrind, its pretty rough and uneven. It is not paper cutting sharp, but as I noted in my review, its a good honest working machete. I will be honest that I was a little disappointed in the workmanship on the blade but the sheath is perfect. Mr. Szabo was very responsive to me, so I would bet if you asked him about the regrind you would get some special attention to it.

I sanded down the handles and then wrapped with that stuff you wrap your ankles with before taping it. It is a little clingy, and soaks up sweat, but doesn't have glue to get all gummy.
