Well, sure enough when i got home from work today, I had a lovely present waiting for me from myself... a 12", 12 oz Neem wood handled UBE. It is an absolutely amazing handle. The second i pulled it out of the box and took the knife out of the sheath i was in love... it is amazing.
So, preliminary observations: it is amazing. Scabbard, Chakma and Karda are all good. Chakma and Karda are a touch bigger than i was expecting, and as a result more functional than i was expecting. Blade work looks excellent - no bends, mis-allignment, burrs or so on.
In fact, there is only one problem i have with this knife - the handle. I am not a big handed guy, but i found the knife to be about 1cm to small. Overall, i think on the 12" UBE's the handle length needs to be increased. I have to wrap my index finger around the bolster? (that metal thing at the front of the knife) to prevent the butt from stabbing into my palm to badly (and let's face it, this is not a good arrangement if i start chopping).
So all in all - an amazing knife i already love to death. Only problem is i need smaller hands!
Much thanks Yangdu!
