We got home today filled with excitement and anticipation because I knew a couple of packages would be at my door. Lo and behold, there they were. We hurriedly ripped into the boxes, I got the 16, she got the 4. We found a pine tree that had snapped in half from the snow storm and she got to work.

I stood close by taking pics and giving pointers as the chunks flew by. It didnt take her long to find the sweet spot...

As her arms grew weary, she went two handed and choked up...

A little too far...

I mean really, the very second I looked down to check if the pics came out before the tree dropped, I see the machax hit the floor. I look up and she's sucking her finger. "I'm ok", she mumbled with her finger in her mouth. She picked up the Machax and while sucking her finger, she finishes it off one handed...

The Machax wanted a taste of blood first thing out of the box. She got a little. Not too much...

Finally, 30 mins after arriving home, we unlock the door and go inside for a bandaid and some dinner...

Well done baby girl...well done

I look forward to father-daughter moments like that with my own once she's a little older. Thanks for sharing.

Enjoy it, I hope it lasts. When my daughter was 12 she was about the same. Now at 15 no so much. I can still get her to come out and play with dad sometimes but it's a lot harder.

My pleasure! I'm very blessed, she's an absolute joy to be around. She has a great sense of humor and get her smart ass snarkyness from me lol.
She asked if that means she's a real knife owner now. I had to answer her "yup"
She orderd a remora Saturday with her own money. And asked me a minute ago if I'd help her make her own scales.
You have a lot to look forward to!

Wow, yeah, I'm soaking it up as much as I can, she's growing so fast I can't stand it.

Good job Dad. Both my daughters carry at least one pocket knife (at age 38 and 41). No doubt. I hope, due to early experiences with me and knives.

Nice, I hope you left that stick standing at height. You should be able to get some sap filled goodness in short order!

Great job on starting her out young! Soon she will have amassed a collection rivaling the Best of them!

Fantastic thread! Good on you for passing on the knowledge and the skills.

+

Good on you Dad. Remember when they get older they will give you grandchildren for you teach the way of the Becker's. My oldest grandson is just about old enough now.

Quick question time, sharp eyed viewers. The girl was clearly leading with her left hand when utilizing a two handed grip. So how'd she cut her finger on her right hand?

You got it Charlie! She was adjusting her grip and grabbed the blade with her off hand. Gloves would've prevented it, yeah I know. This was all impromptu and I let her roll with it. It was a tiny cut that bled a lot. It was a badge of honor for her and I'm proud she took it that way. In fact when I explained to her that I should've been watching closer and I was sorry she acted like I was crazy lol. Thanks for all the compliments folks! She's very excited about May and is seriously getting into the groove. Heck, the wife already claimed the 16 heh.

ETA: She is a southpaw...

Nice pair of boots are in order to protect those 10 little piggies ;-)

Gah, y'all...this wasn't a planned outing, the tree is basically in the yard, we live in the country with no neighbors, we had just got home and didnt even go inside yet. I also have a 20yr old son. This isn't my first go around ffs! What's next, eye protection and a high visibility safety vest? We're rednecks and this is what we do around here...

Hahahah. The cut didnt happen while swinging and I should say the dripping was embellished, it was a tiny cut, she wanted a good pic so she gave it a squeeze and the shoes were kicked off when we got back in the grass. Ok, y'all happy? Last time I post any shit like that...damn Debbie downers. You never let me do anything fun Mom!

You'll shoot your eye out kid!
