This was the last PWYP at Terrill Hoffman's Chestnut Mountain Proving Grounds....... Terrill has hosted a gathering of Knife Nuts for fifteen springs....... I have been privileged to a part of twelve (I think)of them....

I have laughed my ass off, had deep philosophical discussions both sober and when alcohol was involved, taught and been taught, mentored and been mentored ...... I have made some really good friends and have strengthened friendships already made...... I have had a lotta good food, sipped some very tasty spirits and drunk a brew or two.......

I have watched our host Terrill Hoffman inspire a number of people to pursue projects and dreams......And very few appear to have become nightmares.......

One of the most memorable PWYPs was in the early days and our fire consisted of Jim Nowka, Dave Skomra, Gene Boyd, Oopa, and myself...... My gut muscles were in real pain for three days and did not really recover for a week.... Try laughing heartily for fourteen hours a day for thee days and you will have some idea...... It started early and lasted late........

Terrill's impeccable hostliness has been an inspiration to me and encouraged me to begin the Beckerhead gatherings........

In a lot of ways PWYP has impacted our lives here........ It has been an incubator, out of which several outdoor writing careers, survival schools, knife designs and designers and other enterprises have sprung.......

Many, many thanks Mr. Terrill, I will always be in your debt......

I am really, really gonna miss Chestnut mountain in the spring........

I hate getting in on something when it's far too late. Damn... Maybe I'll get to meet Mr. Hoffman another way. Good post, E.

I only got to attend two PWYPs and both were exactly as you described it. Inspiring, amazing, and an overall great time. I am going to miss it as well.

Wow, sounds like a lot if fun. I don't know anything about it but I can imagine after 12 years its become part of your life. An event that you look forward to doing again the day you leave. Those relationships you build after 12 years even if you only see the folks once a year can be strong. I'd be interested in checking this out. Is it completely done or is it just the location and host that's changing?

Hey NC......

Jim Nowka is going to do a kind of phase two......Check out the PWYP Facebook page for more info...... May not be up yet....

PWYP New England... someday :D

though PWTP may be sooner :D

It's almost kinda sad in a way. It's like when the head coach of your lifetime, all time favorite team retires. The team goes on but it won't be the same. I never got to meet Mr. Hoffman but by all accounts he's a great guy. I'm somewhat familiar with James Nowka and can only hope that he keeps the spirit of PWYP going.

I'll be on the lookout for the info on the PWYP Facebook page.
