?

Oregon, I'm not sure as I've not seen this one. But it looks to be a early 501 blade modified to fit that handle. The blade looks rough, unfinished or used. DM

Thank you kindly Desert, the sage, Dave.

I enhanced the three photos a bit before posting them. Micarta handle. Chocolate brown or burgundy perhaps. The pins look to my sore eyes like they were installed at the factory and not by a mangler. Prototype (odd to use a custom blade for a prototype, however)?

Key word search "new buck custom folding knife in excellent condition" for more of the story, if you like. Claim is "custom" per owner.

I "think" I've seen those scales before only not with a Buck blade.

Western Knife company made a knife similar to the Bucklites in the 1980's, if I remember right, the scales looked a lot like those. My guess is maybe a Western Brand knife scales with a Buck blade?

I googled : western knife similiar to bucklite
Look at the first one that comes up. The scale design looks similar although the one that comes up on google is finger grooved. But something like what I googled is what I remember seeing.

The blade with that stamping Buck did from 75-84, the stamp was discontinued in 85. The scales look to be maroon micarta and the pins stainless. A proto-type--- I don't know. It could be Buck. Still, the blade lacks the degree of finish Buck would have given it. A lunch box project is my guess. DM

It could be. IF Buck came across some of the earlier 501 blades and used them on this. 2) there is no Buck wording on the valox handles. So it would have to be a
early proto-type. The dates of the 2 models (1985) are close. DM
