Picked up this at a yard sale recently.
Handle is a dogs breakfast of non original parts.

Old handle removed, tang is in very good shape with most of the powdercoat still on it.
Below is the bits for the rebuild, leather washers are from a newer Ka-Bar that had a
broken blade.

Interesting, is that a genuine Ka-Bar blade? I've not seen a 1217 or USN MK2 blade stepped in the tang/ricasso area like that. The new handle looks like it will last a good long while.

Yes genuine,just altered.
I have added a choil to a few I have rebuilt, but this one was like it is when I got it.
Not sure what the top choil was for,and at first I didnt like this style at all, however,it has grown on me.
I even found a use for it,makes a great lifter for taking the camp oven/billy off the fire.
Maybe thats what the guy had in mind all along.(?)
Next project is a 1217 with a cut down tang, stay tuned.

Dogs breakfast knocking up some chips from Ironbark for the fire.

Top choil works a treat for picking up hot rack.
Good thing I had this as some two-leg Dingo has walked off with my Camp oven lifter.
Jimmy Yeowie is probably using it as a back scratcher.

Just butter on toast today as the Dingo looks to have made of with my Vegemite as well!

This is my next project,Black Beauty.
Got this from the same yard sale as Dogs Breakfast.
Older blade with Parkerizing (pre 1991)
Factory edge still sharpish.
Tang has been cut off, nothing I could do about that,so I just cleaned it up a bit.
(The tang will be strong enough for most duties,it has Ka-Bar on the blade, not Crow-Bar.)
Made a new guard, and spacers to be fitted up.
Stag is not the best, but should do okay.

All glued up and starting to shape the handle.
Masking tape on everything, especially the blade as it is cheaper than a trip to A&E!

Getting there

Black Beauty reunited with his mate Dogs Breakfast.
A light strop and she's back to hair popping sharpness.
Both good to go:thumbsup:

Great job on the 2 KA-BARS. Looking forward to seeing the Randall.

For what it’s worth Randall model 1 has the top finger choil. It’s for fighting with the blade up. Top guard goes between first and second fingers.

Thanks Eveled, just posted some rebuild pics for the 5-6 over on Randall forum.
I know of the top choil on the model 1,intimately!
However when I first saw this on the Dogs Breakfast,I though of the model Ka-Bar 1271 spine, not the Randall.
