Another question for the experts. I have a NIB 122 that has an unusual pommel strap. I cannot tell if it is an early 1967 mint diver's sheath or if it has had the pommel strap replaced. I'll check the old catalogues, but prefer the wonderful support here from you all. Please advise. Thanks!!!

Dle, From what I can see it all looks normal. A great model in good shape. Those were mfg. between late 67 and 71. Some had serrations and different spacer material. Your model has the white teflon spacer material which is of the first production. I think there were less than 500 of that type/ configuration produced. Do you have the box? DM

Thanks all, the pommel strap does not have the thick thumb pull that all the other versions seem to have. I wonder if it was neatly cut off or again this is just an early version of the Nemo Sheath.

Yes it has the box and the original paperwork: 2 registration forms, Use and Care, BUCK NEMO info insert, and the original tissue. It is the large off-white box that states Model 122 ( not a foil overlay ) and has one corner that has split.

I Just checked my Nemo sheath and now I see the thumb pull you are talking about. I have not pulled that knife out for some time. I have seen a site that had some replacement nemo straps that are like the one in your photo. The Nemo that just sold on ebay with box has a nick in the keeper strap just like the one in your photo...is it the same knife?

Good eye Matt? However, the closed ebay auction has a lanyard hole. Also, the bad photo of the nemo I got from a sale here on BF also has a lanyard hole.

Here is a photo of what the strap on my Nemo sheath looks like.

FYI,
There are two variations of the 124/122 with the white teflon spaces issued. The first variation had only about 50 made, the second variation is what David said and had about 500 made. More information on this can be found in the old BCCI new letters.

Yes and those of that first group had the lanyard hole in the center of the pommel. So, its not his. Those of the second group had the lanyard hole like his, hence my comment. From the June 2003 and Dec. 2006 newsletters. DM

Also of note,

The first variation has 4 pins in the pommle and a one line BUCK* stamp. looks like thats why the lanyard hole was in the center....to miss all of those pins;).

Not only is the retainer strap not the same the early sheath was manufactured without the knife retainer ears
that hold the guard of the Nemo.
The holes where the guard rest in the sheath are also smaller in the 1st version Nemo sheath.
The change was made due to many 122 Nemos getting deeped sixth by falling out of the earlier sheaths.

Thanks all. The sheath on the top is the one that I have in EEE's pictures. NO Retainer ears and the smaller pommel strap. The knife is NIB, but the second version white teflon. So it appears to be a 1st version sheath for a 2nd model Nemo.
