There's an instagram video out there of a Manix 2 in S110V cutting through 4 phone books. I just received mine so I haven't really used it yet, but from Jim Ankerson's testing vids, it holds up very well.
 
I tested it, in 2x Manix 2's and it fine, does what it's supposed to do. :)
 
I don't believe there can be a "consensus" per se. The edge retention you experience will largely be dictated by what/how you cut, how you sharpen, and what sharpness you require. That said, there is nothing wrong with steel that is causing less than expected performance, which seems to be more what you're asking. The steel will do what it is supposed to do, as Jim said, and I think the LWT (and Native) are a great platform for it.
