Nice. I'm not a rift fan but it's a cool knife this year. Money well spent.

I am a huge bruiser fan! I might consider this model in the future (if they are still in stock).

I would like to try a Rift, but S30V is a deal breaker for me.

I would sooner use 154cm for the added toughness, comparable (if not higher) stain resistance, and easier sharpening. That being said, I much prefer M4...

I prefer the edge holding and toughness of M4, and ease of edge maintenance over the other two stated above. Especially since corrosion isn't an issue for me (Even though I live in a neighborhood with tidal salt water within 5 block on three sides of me.).

The regular Rift is 154CM, this is a limited edition with blue / cf handle where the regular Rift is grey / black. If you are interested in trying out a Rift check out the regular one unless you really hate the way it looks or something.

Some people take S30V as an upgrade to 154CM and some dont. I find that interesting. For me as far as Crucible I find 20CV and M4 to hold the razor edge a bit longer before settling into a good working edge and from Bohler M390 and Elmax perform like 20CV. Those four stand out. I dont work in a machine shop or in an industrial job so perhaps Im not observing as much as I should, my folders are either an EDC or a supplement to a fixed blade for outdoor activities.

Most of my fixed blade knives are CPM 3V and my folders are mostly a variety of particle steels.

Id like to see people use CPM154 simply because its 2018. I dont know how much more money it is to use over 154CM but it should grind easier and it sharpens better for the user.
I know the regular production is 154cm, but unfortunately I prefer a higher wear resistant alloy, and I have yet to luck into an M4 Rift on the exchange.

M390/20CV/204P are all close enough to be considered near the same alloy, just with differing construction methods, be it first, second, or third generations of the CPM or CTS (both sprayed particulate) technologies.

Elmax is close to those three in edge retention with higher toughness. That is given an optimal heat treat (around 61-62HRC), though most brands HT their Elmax to 58-59, which is soft for the alloy, and leaves a lot of edge retention on the table. Making it seem that it only has toughness as a main attribute, and not showcasing the edge retention too. If you want a solid HT on Elmax, try a Busse.

Lower wear resistant, higher toughness alloys definitely have their place, it is just that those roles are often filled by fixed blades in my particular grouping of knives.

In either case, sharpening isn't an issue, since I use diamond stones to do the cutting, so all alloys will move with them. Just the rate at which they sharpen changes, not the difficulty. Even though some alloys tend to have a more stubborn burr.

If you want something like the jump from 154cm to CPM154, try AEB-L, or Z-Finit/LC200N/Cronidur 30.

LC200N and kin should be over S30V in wear resistance but slightly under M4, if not by much.

AEB-L has impressive toughness, ease of sharpening, and takes an insane edge, it will hold a razor edge longer than S30V does, then drop off without much of a working edge. Though it is easy to touch up.
