I've been using Fireclean on my carbon steel stuff and no rust or patina.

On carbon that has a patina I've used Flitz to remove it.

I've always used froglube it seems to work better then anything else out there and is food safe as well.I like the paste myself I just heat the blade up with a hair drier brush it on when the blade is good and warm and then I just let it cool and wipe off any excess.

I also vote for Corrosion X. I wouldn't use it in a food prep environment, but it is an incredible rust preventor.

I use Hoppe’s no. 9 and Tuf-Glide.

What I do is: if it’s not stainless, I polish all the metal parts with Tuf-Glide using a Dremel jewelry buffer bit, then I give it a second coat of Hoppe’s.

If it is stainless, then I forgo the Tuf-Glide and simply polish with Hoppe’s no. 9, using Tuf-Glide on the pivot only.

If it needs to be food safe, I use Pharmacy-bought mineral oil instead of Hoppe’s and forgo Tuf-Glide.

What do you guys prefer to use for rust prevention? Lets say not in a coastal area, relatively low humidity most of the time
Yep that's me.
 here . . . come over there where no body else can see . . . I'll show you my secret rust preventer. I have two the first one is for when away from work (the white one behind the knife) the second one, the blue one (upper left in the photo), is for heavy duty / at work.
The knives and other stuff have nothing to do with this post; these are old photos.
I never use anything else. ;)
