In The SPS some white handle 124s were posted by Haebbie. He said they were micarta & corian. Is there a way of telling which is which just by looking? Here is a 1990 124 white handle I picked up but have no knowledge as to the scale material. In the 1990 Buck price list no mention of getting a production blade with corian or micarta scales only stag and mastodon ivory.

Hi gsea,

That looks like the Corian version 124. I also like the white whales of the 124 world. I have one just like your's in Corian, It's a fantastic looking knife. I had bought a white Micarta scaled 124 form one of our UK members. However, it never made it to my house. After about 3 weeks the seller contacted me to see if I had the knife, when I said it had not come yet he said let me check on it. At first I thought I was being scammed (not the first time I'd been scammed by folks in the UK). It turns out he had tracking info on the knife and it showed it had been delivered to someone in my city.....just not me:(. I wish the seller would have sent me that tracking info as I would have been in contact the day it was delivered wrong, after the two week delay the post office said to bad to me:mad:. Heart burn, loss of funds, and no Micarta 124 in my collection.

Take a look at the side area of your knife as Micarta is layered and you can see that up close. The Corian will have no layering.

Here's a close up from the most sunbleached white corian handle I have: small cracks but no layers visible. The scales are not made of the linen micarta we know from other 124 handles. I forgot what kind of fabric is used. I try to find it out again.

124 Corian were made for export European market ,approx 250.Several are still in the U.S.A.
Some Buck regular non polished 124's were rehandle in Corian. A best as I recall.

On the other side: The white corian 124 with polished blade was made for the American market. Roundabout 250 have been produced. Add a few overrun.

A few white linen micarta scaled knives have been made in the eary seventies. The color went to orange over the time. But nobody knows a lot about these knives. The blade is the standard blade from this time fame. Satin finish.

Thanks guys mine is definitely is Corian, no layers at all. The pics don't show it but it is a bright white with the mirror polish. Just out of curiosity has anyone seen the Mastodon Ivory that was available in the 1990 catalog/price list.

Just a few days ago a corian 124 was offered
at the big auctioneer. It went - not for a whopper,
but for less than 200 USD ... no international sales :(

I had no chance to hold one of these knives in my Hand.
But as I remember there's a photo of one of them
published in the Forum.
