I saw a white handled Buck 124 today. It was stamped "124X BUCK" and the owner said the "x" means that the factory produced this knife as a semi-custom with white scales.
Does anybody have any knowledge of this 124X model? Oh, and is $120.00 a fair price?

Hello upstart,
First of all i am very glad that you asked first. Mostly because now you can make an informed decision on weather or not to purchase the knife but also because that is one of the better "stories" i have heard for one of our date marks. The X after the 124 model number means that the knife was made in 1990. Thats all it means.
The knife is Bone colored corian and we made a little more than 250 of them from 1991 to 1994. They had a suggested retail of about $170.
I "think" that most of them were shipped over seas as this was our European model.

Hope this helps.
Take care

Thanks Joe, you're awesome! I am certainly grateful for your help. Oh, by the way, I still love my Intrepid and so do all the other LEO's I've shown it to.

Upstart,
Glad to hear the Intrepid is getting such a good response from your buddies. I hope they don't have any trouble finding one.
