Well, it appears the Gods of discontinued Ka-Bars have been smiling upon me lately...
In the past few weeks I've picked up
2-1264
1-BK2SG
This 1247
And not 10 mins ago I snagged the elusive 1253!
All at very reasonable prices to my delight!

This one I've let slip away several times because of the price and I was sure it would happen again, but I guess those 3pm on a Wednesday afternoon auctions are the way to go!

I had been watching it closely all week, waiting for the days, then hours to count down...then, of course, actual important stuff like work gets me all distracted...

I looked at my phone and there was an old alert...I said "aww crap, I missed it!" I checked and there was only seconds left...
I bid as fast as I could and as I hit "confirm"... It popped up " ended".
I said out loud "well shit! Stupid stupid stupid! Gah...and someone got it for only $61 shipped!"
Then...ding ding ding, I got another alert that I won! Haha 2 seconds left...crazy...last few sold for $90+

Alright, alright...here she is...



The Blade, to my delight, is smaller than I imagined, feeling light and nimble.

Blade length: 5-3/8". Overall length: 10-1/4". Weight: 11.8 oz.



Barely used, but definitely handled, maybe carried. Light scratches from the sheath that don't show on camera. Factory edge and still shaving sharp.

Of course it came all dusty and dirty but it cleaned up real nice. I immediately dove into the o-ring kit.

I had all intentions of stripping it down to match my 1246 and 1264 but I think I'll put that on hold for now until I get the courage to take some 80 grit to this beaut!

Thanks! Yeah, I was just thinking that. I'll wait till the 1253 comes. I've added several since my last family pic back in around marchish.
 
:thumbup: interesting looking piece. That fat blade looks like it would be some great utility outdoors. Congrats on the score!
 
I have a 1247 but I'm too paranoid to take it out in the woods anymore. The Ontario SP46 is actually a pretty good substitute.

Paranoid about losing it? Are they exceptionally valuable now? (oops - I guess $90 is pretty high)
I have one new in the box and haven't taken it out because my Ontario SP2 does what I need and if I lose it - I have more SP2s :)

Even if it's not terribly valuable now, I just don't like the thought of there being one less in existence. Especially if that one if mine. I've used it around the apartment some as like a badass letter opener and such.

I like this idea of a ridiculously large letter opener. I may have to bring a large blade or two to the office.


If only someone could figure out a way to open email with a knife.
