1247 Warthog?

I'm in the process of packing up/moving and have sold several knives on Bladeforums over the past couple weeks and was wondering if the older style 1247 Warthog sells when listed for a reasonable price? The knife looks new if not for a scuff mark from the sheath.

I Googled the model and saw one listed for $175 and I can't imagine that that is a "reasonable" price...sounds like highway robbery to me. I mean this knife is several years old BUT its not that old. Had to chuckle when I saw that the one they had listed has the exact same scuff on the blade from the sheath, at the exact same spot as mine.

Anyway, do these sell if one is reasonable or is it simply not a model that attracts much attention?
Thanks SO much in advance for any info you can provide.

They do seem to have a bit of a following but I don't see selling one for anywhere near $175. I think it completely hinges on how "reasonable" your price is.

I did a search and it's more like $75.

That's more in line with what I was thinking (i.e. $85 or so shipped if I list it, I probably will in a day or two)

I'm always amazed when I see some of these asking prices, they're ridiculous to me but I guess they're just hoping that somebody will come along and pay up. Thanks for the info, I knew that KA-BAR had changed the handle (making this one no longer available) but I just wasn't sure if the knife drew much interest or not. I think this knife feels great in hand, I like the sheath but it just simply never got used...I'm selling off a lot of knives that fall in that category.

Thanks again.

Each item on fleabay goes for a different amount depending on who is looking for that item at that time. I have seen 1247s go for between $24 and $130. The $24 was well used and WITHOUT a sheath. The $130 was NIB, no scratches, all paperwork, etc. They may have gone for more on some auction that I missed watching.

Mossyhorn is right on. $75 is right at the limit of what I would want to spend on one..... And that's right where a seller wants to be. Good luck!

I'm not interested in posted it on the Bay, I'll list it on The Knife Exchange if/when I get around to it as I'm not looking to overcharge anyone...if it sells there for a fair price so be it. I do appreciate the information, I'm simply not up on what certain KA-BAR's are going for now and the price I saw when I Googled it was silly (to me).

For all I knew you'd be lucky to get $25/30 for it now that the newer version is out. At that point I would have just kept it. Thanks guys!

There is a reason there is a new version. It is better than the old version. The man himself told me so in person (Toooj). It may be worth more/a lot to a collector though. $175 seems silly though.

They look similar but they're not even close to the same knife, so I don't see it as an improvement or replacement. Totally different. It might be an improvement from the perspective of the guys that have to warranty them when people abuse them and break them doing stuff the knife wasn't intended to do. Don't get me wrong, I own a Heavy Warthog and it's a good knife in it's own right, I like it very much. But for the guys who like the original it's a poor substitute.

Is the original smaller in size & blade thickness?

Yes. You ca see in this (terrible cell phone) pic that it's quite a bit smaller.

Other than looks they really have nothing in common.

I think it would be cool if they took the blade from the original and put a ZK-series handle on it. A Zombie Warthog. The closest thing I have found currently in production is the Ontario SP46. Doesn't look similar to the warthog but the size, feel, weight and balance aren't too far off.

The 1247 is my favorite knife.. don't rag it till you've tried it.

And yes they sell, they have an either or reaction on people; some love them uncontrollably, others can't stand them and laught at them/never use them. I've seen plenty of people dislike them, which shocks me silly.
